I woke up the next morning, my heart swelling with eagerness. I was excited to battle either Marigold or Brooke, because both of their powers would seem like a bit of a challenge to fight. I put on a change of clothes, chainmail armor, sheathed my sword, attached my shield to my back, and went downstairs.
Downstairs, Spyro was standing with Marigold, Brooke, and Ash. "You're late," he commented.
"Sorry, sir." I replied, guilty that I was late on this special day.
Spyro sighed. "You are in the first battle of today against Brooke."
I looked at Brooke. My stomach then lurched, remembering that I am at a great disadvantage because her power is stronger against mine. I sighed. I have to figure out a strategy to beat her. The horn sounded, and Brooke and I teleported to the battlefield. I quickly summoned my wings and took to the sky, thinking that it would be harder for Brooke to reach me up there. But, to my demise, she just flew after me. "Surprised?" Brooke asked with a grin but unlike Onyx's it wasn't menacing. "There are small water droplets in the air, and I just float on them." a bubble of water formed around Brooke's hand, and a jet of pressurized water struck me in my stomach, and I went crashing to the ground. I tried to shoot fireballs at Brooke, but it just fizzed out because I was wet. Brooke held a gold spear and threw it at me. I dodged, but it quickly returned to her and she launched again. I could dodge while I dry out, but eventually I would get tired. But then, something clicked. Ash and I share power, just in different forms. I tried to search for ice inside of me, but I was too preoccupied. This went on for ten minutes until I was dry. I shot a fireball at Brooke, but it came out purple. I was confused. It struck her face, but it didn't harm her. I braced myself for her retaliation, but she didn't. I looked up at her, and her eyes were purple, and she was staring into a void, like she was in a trance. I used this time to look for the ice power in me. After a few minutes, I found it. At the same time, Brooke snapped out of her trance, and shot a barrage of aqua spears at me. I raised my hand, and blue flames shot out, turning the spears into water vapor. I looked up at Brooke and grinned. We were both tired, but only I was hurt. "This is where the tables turn, Brooke." I shot a barrage of blue fireballs at her, and she was hit by a few and barreled towards the ground. I unsheathed my sword and she took out her spear, and my sword enveloped me in blue flames. Meanwhile, Brooke's spear enveloped in water. We both rushed at each other, and slashed our weapons at each other. We dueled like pirates fighting for gold. While Brooke was focused on her spear, I took one hand off my sword, and balled it into a fist. My fist glowed with blue fire, and I shot a fireball right at her stomach. Her eyes widened and she was thrown off her feet and she fell to the ground, groaning. Brooke stood up weakly, and attempted to shoot a spear at me. It evaporated before it even got to me. "Well, this ends here. I loved battling you, Brooke. This was a real challenge." I said truthfully. She collapsed on the ground, unconscious from the effort. I won.
We then teleported to the balcony to where Andromeda stood, and Brooke was sent to the hospital wing.
She turned to look at me. "Congratulations for making it to the finals. I saw that you were struggling at first, but you tapped into the power you and Ashley share." Andromeda leaned in to whisper, "Do not tell Ashley about this power. I want her to figure out the power herself. I know she is a very close friend that you have."
She emphasized the word 'close' as if it were something else. I didn't pick up on that, so I just nodded. I looked up at the board, and the next match-up was Marigold against Ash. I cringed. I hate to see my friends fight. Ash and Marigold teleported from my side and onto the battlefield. I looked at Ash, and saw maliciousness in her eyes. The horn then sounded, and Ash changed to her ice dragon form, and took to the skies. Marigold turned into her dragon form too, and flew after Ash with incredible speed. Dragon-Ash turned to look at dragon-Marigold. Marigold flashed with blinding light, which stunned Ash for a few seconds. This gave Marigold enough time to attack, so she flicked her wings at Ash and sharp beams of light pelted Ash, giving her cuts all over. Unfortunately, a good amount of them buried in between Ash's scales making her cry out in pain. Ash growled, and aimed her ice breath at Marigold, turning her to a block of ice and sending her free falling to the ground. But, in the nick of time, Marigold flashed her bright light and the ice around her melted just in time for her to catch herself in the air. Ash was shocked that Marigold had caught herself, she thought the battle would end there. She grinned and said to herself,"This is going to be an exciting match after all." Marigold then speedily flew towards Ash. Her scales were then enveloped in bright light, and she barreled right into Ash with blinding light. When they collided, Ash was sent crashing to the ground, dazed from the collision. Ash looked up at Marigold from the ground and charged up an ice attack, while Marigold did the same with her light powers. When they let their attacks loose, they collided in mid-air, trembling the ground. Ash flew towards Marigold, and one of her talons was enveloped in ice spikes. When Ash was close enough, she smashed her ice-encrusted talons into Marigold's side, making her cry out in agony. Blood was pouring out of Marigold's side, the slash marks covered in frost bite. But she still pressed on. Marigold opened her mouth, and bit Ash on her neck and threw her to the ground. Ash was furious. She shot a barrage of ice spikes at Marigold, but strangely, they were enveloped in fire. I then realized. Ash found the power. The fire in me ignited. "Go Ash!" I screamed.
Marigold flashed a look of hurt in my direction, but I was too busy cheering to see it. The cloud of flaming ice spikes slammed into Marigold and she tumbled to the ground. Marigold was sprawled on the ground, unconscious and unaware of her dragon form slowly receding. Ash landed beside her and had a smirk on her face. She shifted back to human form too. Ash then looked at me with a wide grin. She was looking at me as if she wanted to impress me. I was confused. But then, it clicked. Up until this moment, I hadn't known that Ashley Stone carried a serious torch for me that was blazing brighter than it ever was.
