We got to the battlefield and we observed that the battle had been taken into the field that borders all of the elemental towns. We got Azalea to heal us and we got back into battle. We still weren't fully healed, so we were still careful.
Kaia's gang is extremely powerful. They had an advantage: they didn't care if they killed us. While we had strict orders to bring them in alive, Kaia's gang was fighting everyone of us with an assortment of powers, most of which were forbidden. It was strange that somehow Marina the water chief didn't seem very injured. But I'm sure she just got some water to heal her. Plus, she hadn't been fighting for that long. Winter kept glancing at Marina during the battle which I thought was strange.
"Are you okay?" Winter asked under his breath looking at Marina.
Marina nodded but she couldn't take her eyes off Kaia. Marina must be mad at her for taking control of Winter and is probably trying to find a way to kill her. Andromeda ran over to where Winter and Marina were standing, dodging blasts of power.
"Winter, you and I are going to clear the way while Marina runs through so she can get to the leader." Suddenly Marina looked terrified.
"Andromeda, are you sure? I can go get her." Winter said.
"I told Marina to do it, not you." Andromeda growled. She shot a glare at Marina. If looks could kill, Marina would be dead.
Winter and Andromeda started covering Marina while she raced forward.
Winter looked at me. "Everett, go follow her in case she needs help."
I nodded but stayed a good ten feet away so I didn't bother her. Marina reached Kaia and blasted her with a jet of water but it only made her loose focus. She turned to face Marina and I saw a smirk form on her face. I saw her speaking to Kaia but I couldn't make out what she was saying. Kaia nodded and then glanced at me. I just got in range to hear what they were saying.
"Looks like you got a little shadow." Kaia said.
Marina turned back to see me but at that moment Kaia punched her. But, for some reason, the only evidence was a small mark from Kaia's ring. They started fighting but it looked like neither of their hearts were in it. I had seen Marina fight a few times before and she always impressed me, but now it looked like she could care less about winning. The funny thing was that Kaia seemed to be giving even less effort.
I knew that if she wanted she could easily beat Marina. I realized that Marina must have orders not to kill Kaia. And as for Kaia, well, she must be conserving her power. Suddenly, Winter rushed over and quickly hit Kaia in the back of her head with his ice spear. She fell to the ground. Marina looked like she was about to rush over when Winter wrapped his arms around her, holding Marina back. The raiders realized their leader had fallen and ran off knowing that they would be next. They retreated, leaving their leader behind.
"The raiders have no loyalty." Winter satiated. Then he turned to Marina, "Are you okay?" She nodded slowly. Then Andromeda rushed over and ordered a few of her light soldiers to retrieve Kaia's body for questioning and I noticed her hand drop from Marina's. My guess Marina was trying to locate some of her memories to make questioning easier. Winter whispered to Marina, "It will be okay."
Then he led her away saying things I couldn't quite hear. I looked at Kaia laying there so peacefully. Without energy and anger swirling around her she looked so peaceful, beautiful , I thought. Sure, she was nothing compared to Ash, but I would be lying if I said I didn't find her attractive. With her black hair falling below her shoulders, and her piercing gray eyes, I'd be stupid if I did . Then a few soldiers hoisted her into the air and carried her off towards the training center at the castle. Then I saw Winter walking over, "Where's Marina?" I asked. "Oh she's being checked out in the med bay." He said.
I could tell he genuinely cared about her. "So, Marina and I are doing an interrogation for Kaia and we need to take a trainee. We were wondering if you would like to do it with us?"
I finally found some real responsibility.
"I'd love to!" I said, excitement filling my voice.
"Also, is there something going on between you and Marina." I don't know what part of me thought it was a good idea to ask that question but thankfully Winter didn't seem angry. In fact he smiled. "Oh, I'm not really into women." He started and walked away. This had been quite an eventful day.
