The Prophecy of Elements

One with fire burning bright,

The Sword of the bird of fire

Goes to defeat the beast of Growler.

If he rises in victory,

He will be named prince and heir to the throne.

First he will go for the heart of the phoenix,

Assisted by a girl of ice,

Needing a scale from the great cold beast.

If they survive and end in victory, more will be added to their story.

The Twins of darkness, one will betray

A girl of light, a golden healer.

A boy of earth with a tiger's heart,

And a girl of water with a serpent's tongue.

They will go to the city of magic,

And train until the brightest day.

Then they will go to slay the beast.

If they emerge united and in honor,

They will be given the greatest power.

I sat up in bed, hearing the rapid ringing of the church bell. "The church bell? But it's Friday." I paused and wondered. Why was it ringing?

I looked through my bedroom window and gazed upon the village, and I saw fisherman, like my dad used to be, stumbling off and away from the fishing dock. There was someone on the bell tower of the church, ringing the bell as if his life was on the line. That's when it hit me. The rapid ringing I heard wasn't the church bell. It was the bell that warned the village that dragons were attacking. I dressed up while walking cautiously out the door. My mom was making porridge for breakfast. "Where are you going?"

I stopped at the doorway. "I was just going out. For fresh air, I guess"

My mother sighed. "Don't get hurt. I don't want to lose you too."

I rolled my eyes, smiling. "Don't worry. I'm just going to see what all the commotion is about."

She smiled. "Be safe out there." she ruffled my hair.

"Mom! I told you not to do that anymore. I'm fourteen for heaven's sake."

She smiled once again. "Alright."

I went out the back door and down the alleyway to the town square. I gasped. A dragon, its tail was as big as a house and its talons as long and sharp as a fine blade. Its scales were darker than a night of a full moon, and its eyes the color of a gray sky on a rainy day. King Alexander then rode in just in time to fight the ferocious beast.

"Leave this town or suffer the consequences, vile beast!" Alexander yelled. The dragon roared in defiance. Suddenly, the terrifyingly dangerous dragon charged forward and thrusted him into the air with its hammer-like tail. King Alexander flew through the air and landed with a thud on the brick wall. He was motionless. The town then thronged with gasps and murmurs. I ran to the king and grabbed his sword, Phoenix. I knew this was going against my mother's wishes, but something about the sword just called to my name. As I grasped the handle, I felt a new vibrant energy coarse through my body. I needed to fight. I charged towards the hideous beast, lifting up Phoenix. As I jumped to attack the beast, the legendary sword glowed in my hands, and I swung my arms with all the might I could muster. After my feet hit the ground, the dragon froze like it knew something I didn't. Guffaws could be heard throughout the village. Then amazingly, the dragon faded into the emptiness of the dock. The villagers were awestruck! The king then woke up to find the villagers giving praise to me. Everett Duke Anderson.
