The Interrogation

I was in a room that used to be a torture chamber. Luckily, it wasn't used for a while, but the blood stains on the wall were still there. Kaia sat in the stone chair, arms and legs bound with elementium. She was still unconscious. Winter walked up to her. "Wake up. Someone wants to talk to you."

Kaia woke up. "And who is that someone?" She said groggily. Her voice had a hint of sarcasm.

Marina stepped into the room. Kaia's eyes lit up.

"Why? Why did you attack?" Marina said to her with a hurt look in her eyes.

I was confused because she was a raid boss. This was expected. Gears in my mind turned trying to figure this out."I-" Kaia started, but Marina cut her off.

'Why? We agreed that you wouldn't ever attack in this city and do nothing that would include a battle. A tear of hatred rolled down her cheek. Marina turned away.

"I had to, l-" she sighed. "Marina, they were growing suspicious." Kaia said with so much emotion I didn't think she was capable of.

"I need them to believe I'm a strong leader and the only way to prove it was to raid the village and face all of you. I never thought you would have to face me."

Marina looked at her.

"I'm sorry, so sorry." Kaia said repeatedly. Marina turned to Winter "Leave us. I can handle the rest of the interrogation."

Winter looked at her and said, "Okay, but be careful."

As I was walking out I turned back and to Marina unbinding Kaia and embracing her in a hug. I thought it was strange seeing that she was a raid boss. I didn't know what to think. As I walked out the door, I turned to Winter.

"What about Umbra?" I asked.

Winter shrugged. "I had Onyx interrogate Umbra with Sage."

I nodded. "You can go and see if they're done." Winter told me. I walked out and saw a giant dinner table. Everyone had sat down and begun eating. Onyx had a hint of a smile on his face. Marigold just sat there trying to talk to Onyx but he seemed to be thinking of something else. "Hey, Onyx?" She said to him,

Onyx looked up.

"I, um." She glanced sideways. " Are you okay?" Marigold asked.

"Oh, uh, yeah. I'm just thinking about the fact that they have never raided that town before." He replied, still lost in his thoughts.

"How did your interrogation with Umbra go?" I asked.

"Good, I guess" he replied, but not in his usual confident voice.

"Just good?" I asked, a little skeptical. He just nodded. I shoved a bit of food in my mouth and then turned to Andromeda and asked, "After dinner, can I interrogate Umbra?"

"Well, Onyx already did, but if you really want to, it's fine with me." Andromeda replied.

Onyx suddenly stood up. "I'll go with you." he said then he grabbed me by the shoulders to make me stand up and we walked out the door. As we walked out, Marigold stormed past us. I looked back at Aspen, who I had actually gotten pretty close to, but he just shrugged. Me and Onyx walked down the quiet hallways when I finally broke the silence. "So, are you and Marigold a thing?" Onyx stopped in his tracks.

I had known the boy for a while now and I had never seen him confused.

"Marigold likes me?" Onyx asked. Clearly he didn't know.

"Yeah, I thought it was obvious," I said matter of factly. But clearly it wasn't, at least not to Onyx.

"Listen, she's really not my type." He said carefully.

"Then what is?" I asked, but I hoped I wasn't crossing any lines.

"Not blondes." Onyx mumbled. I raised an eyebrow.

"We're here." I said. Onyx and I. walked into the room where Umbra was being kept.

"Why isn't she in a cell?" I asked.

"We're not barbarians." Onyx replied.

I was starting to grow suspicious of Onyx. Kaia was in a cell, so why wasn't Umbra in one?

Suddenly Umbra spotted us and jumped up. "What do you want?" she sneered at me, wanting to attack me right there.

"I came to ask you a few questions."

"Well, ask them." She said sassily. This girl was really getting on my nerves. I will admit that Umbra was pretty in a dangerous, dark way. Not anywhere near Ash though. I smiled thinking of her. "What type of powers do you have?" I asked.

"You mean how was I able to control that little friend of yours?" She said with a smirk. "I'm like Onyx in the sense that I am able to control darkness, but his darkness is more physical and mine is more mental. We can still perform the opposite task, but not as well." I nodded.

"You seem a little, well, young to be a raider?" I told her.

"You look a little young to be a hero." She shot back. I soon realized that her pride was her weakness. I could use it to my advantage. "But if you must know, I see no reason to wait to achieve what I want."

Suddenly, Marina stormed in with an emotion on her face I had never seen before. "Onyx Steele. I need to speak with you now."

Onyx followed her out and I turned back to Umbra. Suddenly something clicked. I had a feeling that Onyx and Umbra knew each other. "Do you know Onyx?" I asked.

Umbra smirked, "What makes you think I'd tell you?" Umbra asked.

"So, is he your boyfriend?" I asked, knowing I would get a reaction out of this. But instead of looking shocked or worried she laughed. "Oh, okay. You think me and mister Onyx 'emo' Steele would be together." She said, still laughing.

"Well it makes sense. I mean, you seem to know each other and-." I started, but she cut me off.

"I like girls." She stated as if it was obvious.

"Wait you-I didn't-how-I mean not like I'm against it or anything I've just never met anyone besides Winter." I said, stuttering. I couldn't believe I had assumed they were dating and not just friends. "It's fine, but most people just assume I'm gay." She said. I was surprised how chill she was. "So then how do you know Onyx?" I asked, very intrigued by this girl. "I trust you Everett, despite what Onyx says. But if I tell you how we know each other, you must promise not to tell anyone." She said.

I was shocked she trusted me, but I knew I wouldn't break her trust.

"You can trust me." I assured her.

"Okay. Onyx is my brother." I just stood there with my jaw hanging open. Onyx had a sister who was a dragon raider. But why had they split up? Suddenly, Sage burst in with Winter trailing behind him.

"Andromeda wants to talk to Umbra immediately." Sage announced. I spotted Marina standing behind them. Umbra nodded and went to Marina, walking towards Andromeda's office. I saw Winter standing there holding on to Sage's arm. I immediately realized that they were a thing. I smiled at the thought of Winter finally finding someone. "Everett, have you met my husband Sage?" Winter asked, staring straight at Sage.

"Actually, I have. He wiped my mind before I fought Ash." I told him. It wasn't a pleasant memory. Winter nodded, "so, there has been a bit of drama once you left. Marigold had been crying with Marina but they came to some understanding." I was sad just thinking about Marigold crying. "Okay. We should get back to the dining hall." I said. "Actually, everyone went back to their rooms." Sage said. It was the first time I had heard him speak nicely, and he had a strong and commanding yet almost soft voice. I nodded and walked towards my room.
