Ash

The moment I saw Kaori drop the disguise I knew she had been chosen to be the new Artemis. I also knew that meant she wouldn't have been able to call us. Leto was understanding of our friendship and accepted that, but Zeus wouldn't have liked it. He wouldn't accept us being there and she knew that. When she saw Inu vanish I could see the heartbreak in her eyes. Not to mention the pained look that appeared on her face. When she turned to me I could tell her strong facade was breaking. I slipped my glasses off and I walked towards her. I lifted her chin making her look at me. Her now blue eyes were filled with tears. All I saw was pain in her eyes before she closed them. A tear slipped down her face and I pulled her into my arms. She started sobbing. She mumbled apologies into my chest and then her legs gave out. I fell to the floor with her. She gripped my shirt and was sobbing into it. I picked her up and took her to her temple. I took her to her room and laid her down.

"Just rest, Kaori. I'll go find him." She clutched my hand.

"D-don't. This is my responsibility. I should be the one to talk to him. Just let it be." She looked down at my hand and then let go.

"Kaori," she shook her head, "it's my fault I didn't tell him. It's only right I face the consequences, Ash."

I frowned. This wasn't her fault and I knew that. She was keeping us safe by not involving us. Inu needed to know that and accept it.

"Please, Ash. Just give him time." She sat up in bed.

She was in a suit now.

"It's not fair. You only kept us out of it because of how Zeus and Leto would react," she smiled sadly at the ground, "It's not that simple in his mind. He blames me for keeping something from him. The other times that's happened I've almost died, Ash. He's afraid of losing me. Just like I fear losing him. I did this, Ash. Let me clean up my mess."

She smiled up at me. It didn't reach her eyes. She stood up and walked to me and hugged me.

"Thank you for sticking around. I'm going to go back to work. If I don't keep busy I'll break down," she bit her lip, "I'll see you later, okay?"

She slipped past me and walked down the hallway to her office. Her head was hanging as she walked away from me. The moment she was out of my sight I left to go find Inu.
