Part 3 - You are my first friends; I think

Y/n pov:

I walked over to the breakfast table. Apparently breakfast was still going so I didn't need to have food brought to me. I sat down. There were very few Gladers still there so I sat alone. Billy sat over with Gally. We didn't want anyone to know about the kiss, at least not yet.
Someone sat next to me. I turned to see Newt sat next to me.
"Hey y/n. A little tired this morning?" He asked.
"I'm alright, thanks Blondie" I replied. "BLONDIE!?" He almost snapped back sarcastically.
"I'm sorry was I not known as 'she-bean' or 'Greenie'?" I sarcastically asked.
"Fair enough" he said. "But pick something else."
"Fine." I said rolling my eyes. "Lizard it is."
I laughed at his reaction.
"How dare you!? A newt is not a lizard!" He shouted in pure shock and offence.
"I can't hear you!" I laughed back.
I ran, putting my plate on a ledge and bolted toward the dead heads. I turned to see him following me but he was no where near catching me. I clambered up my tree before he noticed. He wandered beneath it coming to stop, he had no idea where I went.
He sat at the bottom of the tree. I listened as he started to talk to himself. He glanced around to make sure no one could hear him before confessing.
"Oh y/n. You are so beautiful I get butterflies just hearing your name. But you would never like me back. I am just a stupid, ugly boy with a pathetic limp."

I looked down as I notice his left ankle. It was swollen and red. I hadn't noticed. I assumed that was the reason he couldn't catch up to me. I wasn't a particularly fast runner so I had expected him to catch up to me.
He slowly rose and headed further in the woods to find me.

I clambered down the tree trunk and strolled out of the woods. I saw Alby and walked over. He looked as though he was looking for something. But when he saw me he immediately stopped.
"Y/n" he shouted. "So we didn't tell you yesterday but since we are not sure it's the best idea for you to be sleeping around 30 odd boys, so we have decided to build you a hut. It will be finished by tonight."
"Great! Thank you so much!" I said enthusiastically.
"Oh and also starting tomorrow, we will be testing you out for different jobs."  Alby said.
I vaguely remember him explaining about the jobs but I was a bit too confused to focus.
"Alright." I replied.
I wandered off again. Newt was walking out of the 'dead heads' when he saw me and ran toward me. I realised too late and by the time I started running he had already caught up. He grabbed my legs and put me over his shoulder.
"Put me down!" I yelled, squirming in his arms.
"Not until you apologise." He taunted.
"I am not going to apologise lizard face!" I shouted as he laughed.
He didn't budge.
"Fine. I'm sorry" I said sarcastically.
He put me down. I squinted my eyes at him almost to say game on. He did the same back.

- time skip -
I sat down for dinner. I looked around and realised there weren't any empty tables. I was too scared to sit on one with others. I don't think anyone would want to sit near me.
"Y/n!" Newt hollered across the room. He beckoned me over.
Phew, I wouldn't have to awkwardly sit around anyone else.
I sat down at his table. Sitting with him were, Minho, Ben, George and Winston.
I sat there silently listening to their conversations. They were very random but I guess in a place where not much happens everyday, there wasn't much to talk about.
"So y/n, have you made any friends?" Minho asked genuinely curious. I knew I couldn't mention what happened with Billy, so I shook my head.
"Then welcome to our friend group" Minho said smiling.
"Really? Are you sure? I mean you don't even know me yet." I responded.
"Of course! We are all one big family here so we would love to have you as our friend!" He said joyfully.
I smiled.
"Thank you. You are my first friends; I think"
"We are glad to be your friends." George said.
"So because you are now part of our group, we need to teach you a few things." Newt said. I looked up in worry.
"So first things first, we always sit together at meals." I nodded. "Secondly, we don't keep secrets. Well at least everyone else. I am second in command so i am sworn to secrecy by Alby on a few things."
"Ok" I replied.
He lowered his voice, "And last but not least, we have a code for when we are in danger. 6398. We use it in any random way to tell the others without the entire glade knowing."
"Ok!" I said.

- time skip -
After dinner I went to talk to Billy. We had quietly slipped away so nobody would notice us together.

"So. Y/n. I really like you and really want to be your boyfriend. I know it's very soon but you are just so perfect."
I blushed.
"I really like you too Billy. So yes. I would love to be your girlfriend! Are we going to hide it from the group or"
"Whatever you want honey. I don't care as long as I am staring into your beautiful green and brown eyes." He said.
I thought for a moment. I hadn't actually ever seen what I look like. I knew I had long brown hair, but I didn't know much more than that.
"I have green and brown eyes?" I asked curiously.
"Yes. Your left one is green with hints of light brown near the pupil, and your left eye is light brown with dark brown specs."
"Wow. I never realised." I said softly.
Billy wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Are we going to tell everyone?" He asked again.
"Let's just wait a little longer" I replied.
"Of course honey."

- time skip -
I entered my newly built hut. It was just outside the dead heads in a secluded area of the glade. Alby had made it clear that the area it was located was off limits unless I gave permission.
I looked around the small hut. It had a wooden bed with a comfortable looking mattress on top. The bed had been made up and there were shelves and storage units for all my things. I say all my things, what I really mean is what was sent up with me.
I tidied everything away and changed into some shorts and a hoodie. I climbed into bed and laid down on the mattress, falling asleep instantly.
