YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL
must be the heat | chapter sixteen"an unusual moment of instinct"
BLOOMSBURY WAS QUAINT, CLARISSA HAD DECIDED from her brief look of the town through the carriage ride over and the quick walk she and Rupert made across the cobblestone street to the discreet entrance to a meeting hall through an alley. The morning sun was weak and watery, only reminding Clarissa that she was currently avoiding her daily stroll with Eloise and Penelope yet again. Rupert had told her not to send a note this time, just in case Eloise came knocking at the manor. He had made it clear that not even Eloise could know of this and as much as Clarissa wished to inform her of everything she had learnt, she knew she had to trust her husband on this. Despite how much it pained her.
Clarissa had not let go of what had happened in the mannerism exhibit yesterday, even though she knew she had to. She didn’t want things to change, she had decided this, had she not? So, why was she making it so difficult for herself? She had only known Eloise nine days, she had counted them herself, the number engrained in her mind now. Nine. Nine. Nine days. It had taken Willa a near year to befriend her, let alone for anything to spring between the two of them. How was it that Eloise had managed to find the exact way to crawl her way into Clarissa’s heart and dig her claws there, making it impossible to get her back out?
