YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL
guilty as sin | chapter nineteen“it's my, uh... first time”
CLARISSA, PENELOPE AND ELOISE'S MORNING stroll had taken a turn into the market along the street outside Grosvenor Square. This had been the first time Clarissa had seen Eloise in two days, and it had been another day since the ‘thank you note’ was delivered to her. Eloise did not bring the letter up, so Clarissa did not either. It felt rather like the both of them were ignoring anything to do with it or the conversation they had had out on the swings. Clarissa was uneasy about the fact, but with Eloise’s constant talk and Penelope’s gentle laughs, she tried to tune out the tension that only she was surely feeling.
“I have never understood the fashion for feathers in the hair,” Eloise commented as she picked one up from the basket of selling objects beside her. Clarissa had been eyeing a particularly pretty pearl necklace, showing Penelope who agreed it was very pretty. “Why would a woman want to draw notice to the fact that she is like a bird squawking for a man’s attention in some bizarre ritual?”
“Then why are we looking?” Penelope asked with an amused chuckle.
“Because I would rather do anything than stay a moment longer in that house while everyone flutters around Daphne, cooing over her prospects,” Eloise complained, walking away from the stall, forcing Penelope and Clarissa away from the jewellery they had been regarding.
