The next day was one of the best if you could ask Jay, not even Christmas or Halloween compared to this date, 4th of July, not that Jay was the maximum patriotic American guy but he really loved 4th of July. He usually went with his parents and the Byers to Hawkins' fun fairs, get a corndog, maybe a burger, a bit of everything, he and Will were always to played in the booths, getting cheap toys and ugly plushies as prizes, Jonathan and his dad will grill some burgers and more meat, Joyce and his mother would help their respective son and catch some fireflies with them, and at the end of the night, they'll end up eating more while watching the unhealthy amount of fireworks blow in the air, hell, he thought this one will be better, Max would be on this one again, maybe he could take to the fair himself, have a nice a couple moment, but instead of that, he was on Jim Hopper's cabin with the others, awaiting for El to found Billy, and more to his irritation, Mike was as usually, pacing around while looking at El's door room, but meh, at least he was with Max.

"It can't be good for her to be in there for this long." said Mike, Max rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Mike, you need to relax."

"What if she gets brain damage or something?" asked Mike, Lucas looked concerned and even Jay looked at the door worriedly.

"Oh, shit. Is that, like, a real thing?" asked Lucas worried, only receiving a eye roll from Max.

"No, it's not. He made it up." she explained quickly, Jay clicked his tongue and pointed at Mike.

"To be fair with him, we don't know much about El's powers," Jay admitted, gaining a 'thank you' from Mike and a look from Max, "Don't look at me like that! I'm not on your or Mike's side, I'm as equally concerned for her, so, neither of you two know what is her breaking point." he quickly explained and nodded, but he was fully ignored by Max and Mike who continued arguing about El's limits, it was growing quickly that they even wanted the opinion of Nancy.

"Okay, can you guys settle an argument for us?" said Max, dragging Jay with her while Mike, Lucas and Will followed behind, "Who do you think should decide El's limits? Mike or Eleven?"

"The way that you frame that is such bullshit." arguered Mike with a frown and annoyance.

"It's not bullshit! Mike. This is your whole problem. And it's also the reason why she dumped your ass." said Max, Nancy perked up at this, her eyes now going to her younger brother in slight surprise and shock.

"El dumped you?"

"Yeah because she is conspiring against me. She's corrupting her." Mike accused, pointing a judgy finger to Max, the finger was quickly slapped away by Jay who was growing tired of his girlfriend and cousin's childish argument.

"No, enlightening her. The fact is, she's not yours. She's her own person, fully capable of making her own decisions."

"She's risking her life for no reason!" defended Mike but was countered by Nancy's next words.

"For no reason? Mike, the flayed are out there doing God knows what."

"Killing, flaying..."

"Transforming into monsters."

Added Lucas and Will, Mike gritted his teeth and before he could spoke, Jay interrupt everyone, finally snapping.

"Hey, hey!" he said adopting Steve's mom pose with his hands on his hips, "Both of you're still wrong." he said to Mike and Max.

"Wrong!? How could you–"

"Let me speak for God's sake!" Jay took a deep breath and turned to look at Mike, "YOU are being to protective over El, I understand it! You lost her once and you don't want the same again, okay? But you just got to let her be! Yes, it's good to worry but not to much." Max nodded and pointed at Jay with a grateful smile.
