Aiden

I watch as Alyssa runs out of the dining room, her mother pushing her chair out from under her feet and rushing after her in a scurry.

My cold glare turns to her father, "what the hell was that?" I sneer.

"What was what?" He replies coolly.

"Don't play that shit with me, I saw you- we all did," I argue my words made of pure stone, my voice made out of furious rage with whatever the fuck is going on here.

He shrugs and I stand up to face him, "are you a fucking man or what? Speak the fuck up!"

A grin slips up his face, "I get the appeal, you remind me of my very own Alyssa."

His words disgust me to the fucking bone.

"And that's a good thing?"

He twirls a spoon around his coffee without a care in the world, "it can be-" his smile slips away, "-or not."

My eyes narrow at his words, "you- your the reason Alyssa doesn't want to fucking be here!"

He shakes his head, "she wants to be here, otherwise she wouldn't."

"No," my voice raises, "she doesn't want to fucking be here because of you," I point my finger towards his face.

"She's my daughter," he says his cool façade washing away, "I care for her, I love her."

"No," I shake my head quickly, "you just see her as your little pet project that you can mold into something she's not."

"I don't."

"You do," I insist.

He tilts his head to the side, "you really love her, don't you?"

My mind wobbles with words but only one feels right, "yes."

"Huh," he mutters, "didn't really believe it at first." He smiles, "I know my daughter far better than you think."

"I assure you, you don't."

"I assure you, I do," he sneers, "Aiden Peters."

"Fuck you," I roar as I stomp out of there in unstoppable fury and rage.

I walk along the hallways to find the bathroom she may be in, "Alyssa?" I call out in the small house, my words slightly echoing.

"She left," her mother appears and says softly a sad smile on her face.

I point in the direction to the dining room, "do you know about that?" I ask trying to keep my composure, "do you listen to the things your husband says?"

She shakes her head, "I've never heard a word or impression that vile ever come out of his mouth before, I could never." Tears pop into her glassy eyes, "what have I done?"

"I'm not sure," I run my hands through my hair glancing anywhere but her.

"H- how long has this been going on for? Why was Alyssa sobbing in the bathroom?" She asks.

I shrug helplessly, "I'm not sure," I reply again feeling nothing, nothing, nothing.

"But you know her, right?" She pleads, "I can tell when she looks at you- s-she'd tell you anything."

I shake my head in defeat, "your her mother, don't you know her?"

"I- I love her, to bits b- but I don't know her."

I don't know what to fucking say to her!

I don't know how to sooth someone that I don't know in a moment of distress, I can only do it with people I know.

My Dad.

Alyssa.

Two people, two people too many, too many people hurt.

"Where is she?" I ask instead.

She looks at me hopefully for a moment, a moment of truth- but I don't know- I don't know anything. But I plan to find it out, "She left."

"Left?" My eyes narrow, "where? When?"

She sniffs, "out the window, it was open when I unlocked the door."

That's all I need to hear to push past her and rush out of this house, this house is making me feel cramped, hot, unsure of anything.

It started raining outside and I didn't even realise the dark cloud over me as I see the shadow of Alyssa walking in the street.

"Alyssa!" I call out, "Alyssa!" I start running towards her, she doesn't turn around.

Rain drips down the tip of her nose, or maybe it's tears- maybe it's both.

I stop in front of her, holding onto her shoulders, "Alyssa, I'm not leaving this time, I'm not leaving because you ask me to and I'm defiantly not leaving when you walk away from me. I'm not going to pretend that any of this is normal, because it's not- it's not okay!"

She peeks her head up at me, "Aiden."

"I'm right here," I comfort.

"I- I can't breathe," she says paling.

My heart races, "are you having another panic attack?"

"N- no, no I can't b - breathe here, near here," a quiet drop of water slides down her face and I wipe it off.

"Then I'll take you away," I say softly, "you can come home with me, if you want."

She shakes her head, "I can't go home with you," she keeps shaking it, "n- no."

"Yes, your coming with me, I told you I'm not leaving."

She doesn't move.

I sigh, "remember when I told you that stupid story?" I ask.

"What one?"

I lightly chuckle, "good to know you think most of my story's are stupid Al, real nice."

She doesn't correct me when I say Al.

"Go on," she nudges.

I wipe another tear off her cheek, "I told you- that I began hockey to impress a girl," I smile sadly, "that girl was you."

Her lips part and she looks lost for words, "a- aiden."

"Yes Alyssa?"

"I thought you hated me," she whispers, "you acted like you hated me-" another tear drops, "I didn't know what to do because everyone liked me back then- I was nice to you and all I can on return was- that."

Her words sting me though they're completely true, "It was the only way to get your attention, you didn't look at me otherwise." I wince, "maybe there was a better way to go about it, huh?"

She licks her lips, "I'm sorry," she whispers.

"There's no need for you to be sorry, according to Tess I was a dick."

"You were," she says hardly a word, "I held a grudge against you for ages- but your not the same guy you used to be Aiden- your nice."

"Nice," I try that word on my lips, "I wouldn't be too sure about that."

"Well I like it," she says.

"As long as you like it."

I don't even realise how close we are, our body's brushing together.

She looks up at me with deep blue eyes, swarming with color.

I don't even know why I say the next thing, "can I kiss you?"

Her lips part and she turns her head around looking wildly around, I immediately regret the words I've spoken. "I-"

"Yes," she says and I almost jump in surprise, "but not here- not near this house."

I smile, "whatever you want."
