Alyssa

--- Three weeks later

He smiles at me and I feel like I'm flying.

He smiles at me and I feel like I'm falling.

But those are both in my imagination.

Because when he actually smiles at me I feel content, he isn't some imaginary figure from a fairytale strolling over to me as a white knight. He's a boy and I'm a girl, trying to pick the pieces up together and not fall apart.

But every time he smiles at me I feel a piece of me clicking together sightly more.

We just work together.

It's as simple as that.

Alyssa and Aiden.

"I'm seriously doubting your skills, Peters." I chuckle, "it looks like slop."

"Don't just something by it's appearance Alyssa, it's a beautiful home cooked meal."

I snort, "it was from a pre-made pancake mixture."

He shrugs, "half homemade then."

I read the back of the bottle. "It's also out of date by five months."

"Ah," he shudders and picks up my plate with the disgusting looking pancake. "I'm not letting my girlfriend eat that." I feel a jolt of joy at that name girlfriend as he throws the pancake in the bin.

My boyfriend walks around the kitchen, looking into the contents of my pantry as I sit on the seat opposite him. Sometimes I can't believe that I'm really here right now, with him, smiling and laughing about food- of all things.

But maybe throughout all of this I've realised that things really can get better, slightly better anyway. Maybe not perfect, but better.

I scroll through my playlist on Spotify, selecting my chosen song and turning the volume up all the way.

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls blasts in my ears and Aiden's head turns towards me, I'm greeted with a wide smile which I return with ease.

"Don't get so distracted," I tell him, resting my head on my hands. "You'll wreck the food again."

"Quite hard when your right there." He says.

I jump off my seat and head for him, "well I am quite the distraction." I smile up at his face. "Aren't I?"

He sneaks a kiss her the top of my forehead causing me to giggle. "You are." He says.

I sigh, "how romantic."

A loud, booming voice distracts us. "Do I smell food?"

"Yes," I roll my eyes. "You do Matthew."

"Good morning to you too Al," he scrunches up my already messy morning hair.

I scowl at him, trying to settle it down again and comb my hand through it. "Why are you even here? I ask, "this is my house."

He shrugs, "sleepover."

"Sleepover?"

"Yep!" Tess calls out. "Caleb's also here."

"An entire party," I roll my eyes. "Fun."

"It is fun." Tess declares. "Don't pretend your too boring for a little fun, Al."

"I'm not boring."

"Yeah, you are." Tess argues.

I look up at Aiden. "Am I?"

"What?"

"Boring!"

He shakes his head. "Not at all."
