I stepped out of the car and sighed, the air here was much cooler and violent than in Lund. The snow was slowly seeping into my shoes and I was hating every moment of this. Marko had somehow convinced all of us to come and visit Charlotta, though we were warned by our aunt that she wasn't too eager. I guess leaving her with our dad was a dick move, but we had to get out. Selfish I know. Although I was excited to see my sister, despite her lack of enthusiasm, I was most excited to get away from Oscar for a week even if it did mean being in the freezing cold. Ella and Oliver started walking towards the door of my aunt's and I sighed and hung back. Me and Charlotta had never really got on, I'm not quite sure why. The worst part of all this is Marko had to go to Croatia to visit his own family until wednesday, so I didn't even have him for support for 3 days. Me, Ella and Oliver walked up to the door and I sighed and rang the doorbell. My aunt greeted us with a smile and a hug each. ''Oh my god! I haven't seen you in so long! Look at you Oliver! And Eva!'' She exclaimed, Ella had pretty much stayed the same with her being the oldest. ''Come in, come in!'' Hanna ushered us into the house, it was surprisingly warm in there and cozy. The smell of scented candles was strong, but not intoxicating. She closed the door and smiled at us as she showed us around the house. It was decorated mostly in green, something we shared.
''And, this is Char's room...'' She trailed off and knocked on the door as we stood outside her room like idiots. ''Char? Your sisters and brother are here to see you!'' Hanna tried to sound excited but she knew it was a lost cause just like we did. ''I don't wanna see them.'' She sounded frustrated and me and Ella looked at each other, then to Oliver. ''Not even Oliver?'' Hanna asked and she simply huffed. ''Fine, I'll come out.'' Charlotta emerged from the bedroom with her headphones on, they must've been loud because I could hear some kind of rock music blaring from them. Healthy. She was just a little shorter than me, with long strawberry blonde hair. ''Charlotta we-'' She cut us off. Rude. ''No, don't even start Ella. You all left me with him, you bastards!'' Hanna gasped at what she said. Damn, little miss mini dad over here. ''Charlotta! That's not how you speak to family.'' Hanna said and Charlotta groaned. ''Don't call me that! It's Char!'' She shouted before going back into her room and slamming the door shut. There was an awkward silence. ''What happened to hello, how are you?'' Oliver said in an attempt to ease the tension. ''She just needs some time, what William subjected her to was something no nine year old should go through. It was hard for her without you, everything he used to direct to you got directed to her instead.'' I shook my head in disappointment. ''We should've stayed. Or at least one of us should've.'' I said as we all went into the living room. ''How could we let him do that to her? We knew what he was like and we didn't even bring her with us!'' I said, I was beginning to get mad at my life choices. Suddenly, my phone began to ring and I sighed but smiled a little when I seen Marko's photo pop up. ''Sorry, I gotta go take this.'' I said, walking out of the room and answering.
''Hey darling, how's it going?'' He asked and I sighed once again, something I was doing a lot. ''I mean, she called us bastards so not great. I wish you could be here.'' I heard him chuckle smugly down the phone and I was so confused but intrigued. ''That's the thing baby, I'm flying out tonight. My parents had something come up so I thought I'd come over. I really wanted to go Norway remember?'' I smiled and jumped up and down on the spot. ''Shit, gotta go the cats are fighting. I'll see you soon! I love you so much!'' I didn't even get chance to reply before he hung up. I then heard very stroppy footsteps behind me. ''Move then? God.'' Char scoffed. ''Char?'' I asked and she turned around. ''What?'' She asked and I sighed. ''Can we talk? Please?'' She sighed but nodded and I followed her into the kitchen. ''Go on then.'' She said, I had no clue why she was giving me a chance but I was glad she was. ''What did dad do to you?'' She shook her head and tried to get up but I stopped her. ''Char, please? I can help.'' She scoffed, but sat back down. ''What do you know? You left before it got bad, you don't know how bad he was Eva.'' I shook my head. ''Trust me Char, I've been through some shit.'' I said, pointing to my cheek. She started showing a bit of interest now. She lifted the sleeve of her shirt to show some minor scars. ''He just used to hit me and stuff, nothing major I guess. Who did that?'' She asked and I sighed. ''Remember Oscar?'' I asked and she nodded and her eyes widened. ''I'm so sorry we left you with dad, we wanted to take you with us we really did but we couldn't.'' She got up. ''You didn't have to leave.'' She replied, bitterly and I sighed. She was right, we didn't have to at all.
So why did we?
