"Yes, I had the odd complaint, but on the whole, I've been a saint! To those poor, unfortunate souls."

Ramshackle Dorm - Foyer

Y/n, Vanitas, Noé, and Grim stood with their belongings scattered in suitcases and bags, the atmosphere heavy with irritation after essentially being thrown out of their own dormitory. Y/n carried her school supplies and clothing neatly packed, Noé had his luggage balanced effortlessly, and Vanitas... well, Vanitas was still flushed, sapphire eyes unfocused as he leaned against the wall, breaths ragged. He was still recovering from earlier, when Y/n had pinned him down and bit deep into his neck. The memory made him swallow hard, a faint whimper escaping his throat despite himself.

Grim, oblivious to the awkward tension, had only managed to gather cans of tuna in a sack. "This is all I need anyway! Hmph!" he declared proudly.

"Are your preparations complete?" Jade's calm, lilting voice broke the silence. He and Floyd blocked the doorway, smirks tugging at their lips.

Vanitas immediately scowled, sapphire eyes narrowing into daggers. "Tch... stay out of her business," he hissed, stepping slightly in front of Y/n as if shielding her from their gaze. His flushed state only made his anger look more unhinged.

Floyd leaned down with a grin, waving lazily. "Peace, Little Sea Angel, Little Shrimpy, Vampire Fish, and Baby Seal! Heh, see you around!"

Noé blinked at the nicknames, tilting his head. "Vampire... fish? I can't get used to that nickname," he muttered in confusion, but quickly tensed when he saw Vanitas bristle, his grip on Y/n's wrist tightening.

"And if you're in need of lodgings, feel free to come and speak with us." Jade added smoothly, his polite smile dripping with mockery. "Reservations for guest rooms in Octavinelle Dorm start at 100 thaumarks a night. Farewell,"

Before anyone could retort, Jade pushed the heavy doors closed with deliberate slowness. The wood creaked, then slammed shut in their faces.

"Tch." Vanitas clicked his tongue, still trembling faintly, his sapphire eyes feverish from both exhaustion and the lingering heat of her fangs in his neck.

"I hope they don't mess up my work..." Y/n muttered under her breath, her tone calm but tinged with disappointment. "I was starting to like my progression..."

"If they do, I'll kill them for touching what's yours—your precious work, your life, all of it." Vanitas growled, his voice rough. He pulled her tight against him, face burying into her hair as though clinging to her was the only thing keeping him standing.
