Chapter 14

Bruce and Barbara walk down the steps making a entrance, she was wearing a long red dress with a sliver necklace on her neck. She also was wearing black heels, red lipstick on her lips with her hair in a high ponytail. Bruce wore a smile black suit, his hair was slick back. He also wore an expensive watch on his left wrist, they stood there waving at everyone as they got claps and cheers from the crowd. Bruce then walks up with Barbara taking a microphone, clearing his throat and bringing the mic to his mouth before speaking. "Good evening everyone! I hope you're enjoying yourself! There's a open bar so enjoy yourself! The food will be brought out soon, for the appetizers we will have crab cake bites or figs-in-a-blanket with goat cheese, dinner will be steak or chicken with salad, Parmesan creamy poatoes, and of course rolls. For dessert we will have. Chocolate ganache cake, Sicilian ricotta pie, Mango mousse cake, and Strawberry panna cotta. If you are vegan or vegetarian we have those options as well for you so please don't worry, we have alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks for you all to enjoy! Thank you! And I hope you have a wonderful night!". Bruce says to the crowd, he puts the mic down then him and Barbara go off to sit at their table. Then the appetizers came to everyone's table you were allowed to choice what you wanted so Raven, Starfire and I choice crab cake bites it was paired with a delicious homemade dill sauce, Beastboy of course choice the figs-in-a-blanket with goat cheese. It had a honey glazed to it, it honestly looked delicious, next time I'll practice making that for our get togethers. We finished then talked some more, Garfield was telling us about the new games coming out in a couple of months. He was excited because before the new games come out, the employees get first dibs of the games. "Wow Garfield it seems like everything worked out, for you at the end but I really hate you got fired. I miss our talks while we ate in the office". Garfield grins at me softly, he shakes his head chuckling a bit. "I'm not I don't think I was cut out for that anyways, I don't have to worry about wearing a suit everyday anymore. Plus I've made some new friends, I'll introduce you guys to them !maybe the next day off we can all go out to eat". Garfield says as he grins more while eating. I smiled at my friend softly as I finished my crab cake bites, this was nice I was surprised that I wasn't running out of the door. We then decided to go around the room with our dates, me and Starfire, and Raven and Garfield. I introduced Starfire to some coworkers of mine, it was nice honestly expect the part when they asked where she was from so we quickly said, she was from Canada. We told them how we meet and everything, everything we said was true just lied about the home part. We continued to do our rounds and spoke to everyone, about anything like their spouses, kids, or stuff they like to do after work. Starfire was grinning from ear to ear as she spoke to everyone. Seeing her having fun tonight made me glad I came here, all that matter was the fact that she was having fun. We then went back to our tables for the next course, dinner I had the steak and Raven and Starfire decided to get the chicken. It was delicious the steak was made medium rare, the potatoes were creamy and had bits of potatoes still there which was perfect, and the salad was a nice strawberry salad it was nice and freshing to go with the meal. Garfield had veggie pasta to go with his sides for tonight, dinner was very good as everyone was having chats with everyone. I took a sip of my wine as Starfire was looking around the room, her smile was beautiful. She was beautiful I was glad I had treated her for tonight I planned on saving up again before our next outing, I had fun with her today even if it was just getting ready for the party it was actually a great time. Suddenly there was slow classic music playing, I watched one by one as couples got up together goes to the dance floor. To share a dance together even Raven and Garfield got up to dance together, I blushed slightly looking at Starfire she deserved to have one more special night of fun. I got up from my seat and offer  my hand to her. "Would you like to dance Starfire?". I asked her softly my voice in a low whisper as I stare into her eyes, she blushes slightly as she places her hand in mine. "I would love to dance with you Dick". She tells me looking up at me slightly, I smiled and lead us both to the dance floor. We join the others as the band continues to play music, she places her hands around my neck, while I placed mine on her hips, she leans her head against my right shoulder as we sway to the music. We are in a steady slow rhythm with each other, taking our time with this dance. It feels good be close with Starfire like this, it doesn't feel awkward like how I thought it would be. But it's not instead it feels like we're meant to be. "Dick thank you so much, for today you've made me feel like a princess for today. You didn't have to but you did thank you". She tells me in a soft voice, I gently smiling at her. "You deserve it Star, you are worth it every last cent you are worth everything that I've got. I would spend money all, over on you again it wasn't as much anyways what we did was simple". I tell her gently as we dance, she sighs softly moving her head away from my shoulder. But not completely pulling away me. "I know Dick but it is your money, I don't want you to think I am only there with you because you have money. You honestly have become a close friend to me, I do not deserve all you have given me". Starfire tells me in a bit of a serious tone. "Of course you do Starfire you help me with cooking, cleaning, and the shopping you've been picking up the slack. You've become my best friend so I will spoil you whenever and however I can". I tell her softly as we slowly stop dancing as the music ends, suddenly Starfire wraps her arms around me and pulls me into a hug, I chuckle softly hugging her back then pulled apart from her. My phone suddenly goes off in my pocket, I grabbed it and pulled it out there's a message that someone from a unknown number has sent me. "Meet me on the balcony, after dessert has been finished", The message is short as I glanced around the room, trying to figure out who has sent me the message. But I see no one which leaves me to be confused, someone at this party sent me a message but no one appears to be on their phone. Whoever sent it must have quickly sent it, then put had put their phone away before I could see them. I sighed softly wondering who it could be, I looked over at Starfire she was staring at me her eyes filled with worried for me. "Dick is everything okay? You've been spaced out for awhile, do we need to go home?". Starfire asks her voice is soft and caring, I blinked looking at her before I put on a face smile on my face. "Not at all Star, come on their about to start serving dessert we better go". I tell her softly without another word. I lead her to the table by her hand we walked back to our seats sitting down as the waiter asks, what the four of us want. Raven gets the mango mousse cake, Garfield got the chocolate ganache cake, Starfire got the strawberry panna cotta, and I also got the chocolate ganache cake as Garfield. We dug into our desserts and enjoy them, Raven feeds Garfield some of her Mango mousse cake. He eats it happily as he eats it sharing some of his chocolate cake with her, it's sweet and everything but it somehow makes me jealous. That is something I hope I have one day with Starfire or with someone else. Suddenly Starfire has raised her spoon towards my lips a bit, she looks at me smiling softly. "Here Dick try some of mine". She tells me in a cheerful voice I smile softly chuckling a bit taking a bit out of the strawberry panna cotta, my eyes widen at the taste it's full of sweet and delicious strawberry flavor thanks to the fresh strawberry glaze it has on there. "That's very good I'll definitely, have to try to learn how to make that". I grin softly at Starfire she giggles softly making my cheeks light up, I noticed both Raven and Garfield smirking at me with their eyebrows raised. I groaned a bit as I went back to eating my own dessert, we finally finished as my phone goes off again. I sighed softly as I grab my phone and open it up, it's a message from the unknown person again. "Dessert is finished now, come meet me on the balcony". I sighed softly placing my phone back into my pocket, standing up from my seat looking at my friends and Starfire. "Hey guys I've got, to uh use the bathroom I'll be back. It'll probably be awhile so just wait for me here". Before anyone could say anything I left to the balcony within seconds I got there, staring at the door nervous to see who could be on the balcony waiting for me. I opened it and walked onto the balcony, my eyes widen seeing Barbara looking at me, she steps towards me as I back away from her. A angry expression across my face. "Barbara why are you here? I blocked your number, I gave you back your stuff there should be no reason for us to even be talking now". I said my voice full of anger as she looks into my eyes, a sadness in them. "Brothered my friends phone, I deleted the messages and erased your number don't worry. But I need to talk to you". She tells me as I scoffed under my breathe, rolling my eyes looking at her. "A little too late for that, don't you think Barbara?". I asked crossing my arms over my chest. Barbara groans as she runs a hand through her hair. "I'm sorry Dick! I'm sorry for what happened! It wasn't supposed to be like that! I don't even know how it happened, you were busy with work and one day Bruce showed up to keep me company. We had some wine and before I knew it we were in bed together!". I frowned at her shaking my head. "DO YOU KNOW HOW HEARTBROKEN I WAS?! NOT ONLY IS HE MY BOSS!!! THAT MAN WAS LIKE A FATHER FIGURE TO ME!!!! YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND BARBARA!!! YOU WERE SOMEONE I TRUSTED!!! YOU WERE THERE FOR ME!!! I TOLD YOU ABOUT MY PARENTS!!!". I panted heavily as I took a breathe, staring at Barbara with still a angry look on my face. I run a hand through my hair messing it up but I didn't care how I looked, not to her anyways. "D-d-dick I'm so sorry, I'm really sorry that should have never happened. But it did now Bruce and I are getting married". My eyes widen as she tells me this, I'm heartbroken, I should have known when I saw that big engagement ring on her middle finger. She's getting married to Bruce, I sighed softly turning away from her walking towards the door. "Congratulations on your engagement". I tell Barbara without facing her, I quickly ran to Starfire searching for her I spot her but also Bruce, I did not want to talk to him and I definitely didn't want her talking to him. I walked towards them gently grabbing Starfire's hand looking at Bruce. "Sorry we have to go thanks for the party". I tell him before he says anything to me I help Starfire up then we leave walking hand in hand, tonight ending up being just like how I thought it would be. It turned out to be a nightmare a nightmare that I wish I could wake up from....
