Chapter 12

Finally work finishes for the day since it's Friday we normally leave work, a bit early than we normally do I planned on making Starfire and I our dinner for tonight. I noticed lately that Starfire has been cooking for us more than I have, I'm definitely gonna have to make it up to her. She's helped so much when I couldn't so I'll be making us, cold curry udon. It's been a bit hot lately so I think Starfire and I deserve something easy, and delicious I sent it to her a few days ago and she agreed plus I'm making use ice cream sundaes for dessert we've been eating healthy lately. So we decided to have some ice cream, I just can't believe I won't get to see everyone tomorrow since now I have to go to this office party. It happens every couple of months, Bruce always wants us there. But if you are sick or have a family emergency, you're allowed to miss it I sighed as I pack up my stuff and get ready to leave until Bruce comes up to me, I look up at him with a confused look on my face. I hope up my mouth to speak, but instead before I could get a word in he speaks first. "Dick I hope to see you at the party, you haven't been in a couple of months. You always get sick during this time so I really hope this time you can make it". Bruce tells his deep voice is soft and gentle as he speaks to me, since Barbara has always been there with Bruce I've started making up excuses for why I can't make it. I groaned softly biting my lip before I open my mouth to speak. "Yes of course I'll be there this year, I'm actually bringing a friend with me. She's new to town so we both agreed to come together, I hope you don't mind if I bring her". I tell Bruce as I grab my stuff to leave before turning back to him, he shakes his head then starts talking again. "Not at all Dick, happy to see you have a friend outside of work, you know the dress code so I hope you and your friend dress accordingly. I'll see you there tomorrow". Without saying another word he leaves me as I sigh and make my way to my car I get into it after, putting my stuff away and drove home to Starfire I couldn't wait to get home to her, she had became my happy place in this dark world. Starfire became my best friend someone who I can tell anything to without being judged, I sighed softly as I thought about the conversation between Bruce and I before I left from the office. I lied to him when I told him I had a date, I have no idea what I plan on doing, I could ask Starfire to come with me though. But I'm also worried about her especially if Barbara is there, I don't want Barbara to humiliate her. Barbara could be cruel when she needed be but then again she shouldn't be after all she is the one who cheated on me, not the other way around why should I care what she thinks anyways? Starfire deserves to be treated like the queen she is, she's funny, sweet, helpful, caring, an amazing cook. The list goes on and on with her Starfire is amazing and I'm gonna go to the party with her, I'll ask her while we are having dinner. I sighed softly as I pulled into the driveway and get out of the car locking it, I opened the door and walked into the house seeing Star reading her book I smiled at her gently as,  I walked behind her looking over her looking at the book she's reading. "Enjoying your book Star?". I asked her softly as a smile spreading across my lips seeing her enjoy her book, she smiles and nods her head as she continued to read without making eye contact with me. "Yes I am almost done with it, just a few pages to go, Victor and I had a great time shopping together we talked, laughed, and had lunch together. I enjoyed my time with him, he had the most interesting stories to tell too". I chuckled softly happy that Starfire and Victor get along with each other, Victor has started hanging out with Karen so of course he tells us about it. I can tell he likes her a lot, but he said he doesn't want to ruin their friendship with feelings involved. Victor said it wouldn't be fair if the group broke apart if they were to ever break up, but I told him not to be afraid of that they aren't together and he's already worried it would ruin the friendship between everyone but I told him we were too mature for that. "That's great Starfire I'm happy you two are getting along". Starfire smiles happily and nods her head before speaking again. "He has became one of my dearest friends, just like Raven, Garfield, and Karen but you Dick. Have become more than that to me, you have become my special friend, someone who has been there for me since the beginning". Starfire tells me and I notice a small blush on her cheeks, it's cute and adorable she's adorable. I sighed softly looking at her gently. "How about coming with me to that party tomorrow? We can spend the day getting pampered before we go, it starts at 6:00 PM so we would need to leave the house at 4:30 PM. To get there on time, they'll have plenty of delicious food, drinks, and music plus we still have Sunday to spend time with the others so it's not a total lost". I tell Starfire as she looks back at me and smiles softly at me. "Sure that sounds like it will be fun, and if we aren't having fun. We can sneak out of there and go have fun ourselves". She giggles after that making me laugh with her shaking my head. "Deal anyways I better get out of these clothes then get dinner started, it's my turn so you, read your book and relax I'll handle dinner and dessert". I tell Starfire before I go to my room to change, maybe this party won't be so bad with Starfire by my side who knows maybe. We'll have fun without any drama coming our way, at least I hope not Barbara will be there. I hope if we see each other we can at least talk like adults, we broke up long before Starfire and I met. The last thing I want is for us to fight like we're a bunch of teenagers, I finish changing then go out of my room and into the kitchen, I got everything I needed for the meal. Then started preparing the ingredients, I hummed softly as I cooked our dinner before adding the vegetables, chicken, and noodles into a delicious cold broth. I carried our bowls over to the table placing them down, then I fixed our drinks placing them down at the table. Starfire watched me as I was setting the table, I placed our forks and spoons down on the table. I pulled Starfire's chair out for her, as she sits down grabbing a fork. "This looks delicious Dick, I've never had the noodle soup like this before". She tells me looking at the dish in front of her, I chuckle softly looking at her gently. "Yeah it's normal for people to eat this when it gets hot try it, hopefully you'll like it". She picked up the food from the bowl, and slurping the noddles. Her eyes widen as stars appear in her eyes as she looks at me with glee. "Dick! This is amazing! The veggies are the perfect crunch and softness, the chicken is tender and flavorful, the noodles are bouncy and delicious! The broth has the perfect saltness to it! Please make this for me again!". She tells me as she eats happily, I smiled softly looking at her enjoying the food, I nodded my head agreeing with her. "Okay I'll make it for you again soon but not too soon, there's still lots of recipes I wanna make for you". I tell her softly as I eat my food, she hums happily in response before continuing on eating. We eat in a comfortable only the sounds of our slurping could be heard, we soon finished eating I stood up and took our dishes to the sink, I started washing and scrubbing the dishes as Starfire comes up helping me, with the dishes it was nice to have these kind of moments with Starfire sharing these moments felt nice. I enjoyed her company this house that was broken because, of a failed relationship was now starting to become home to be this friendship we had with one another because special to me. My feelings for Starfire was changing for her, she became my best friend in a few months of her staying here. She has became someone important in my life. "Thanks for helping Star but you didn't need to it's my job this week since I've been kind of slacking lately, work has been a bit harder but we are hiring some new people soon. So that should make things easier for us, I was surprised we got out earlier than we have been lately. I told myself that I was gonna give Starfire, the day she deserves we'll go to a different place for breakfast next week. And we'll go to the spa again too, this spa is perfect it's got massages, face masks, cucumber therapy, mud baths, and a lot more other stuff. I can't wait until we go I've been wanting a massage for awhile now, a deep tissue massage is calling my name. After finishing with the dishes I made our sudanes I had chocolate and vanilla ice cream in each of our bowls, then I added whipped cream, chocolate syrup, chocolate cookie crumbles, and a cherry on top I chuckled softly looking at our dessert, picking it up and heading into the living room where Starfire was sitting on the couch waiting for me, I smiled at her as I gave Starfire her ice cream. Sitting down on the couch I turned on our show and we dug into our ice cream, it was delicious and perfect for today. I haven't had anything like this in awhile so I was glad to have it, I hear Starfire humming happily as she enjoys her ice cream I looked over to her as she has cookie crumble on the corner of her mouth, I gently reached over and wiped it off with my thumb. Pulling my hand away from her face I lick off the cookie crumble off my thumb, I blush as she looks at me as with a light blush on her cheeks. I quickly looked away from her as my ice cream sits there melting. "S-s-s-sorry! I shouldn't have done! That was really weird!". I tell her panicking as I quickly finish my ice cream it was a mistake because that resulted in me having a brain freeze, I groan as I hold the side of my head looking at Starfire feeling embarrassed with what I did. "I'm sorry ugh I should have wiped it off normally,  instead of doing it like that". Starfire suddenly reaches a hand out and cups my cheek before wiping the chocolate ice cream off my cheek. She takes her hand away and brings her thumb to her lips, licking it off of her thumb like how I done earlier. She smiles at her softly looking at me. "It's okay Dick I don't mind, if it's you that does it you are someone much more special to me. As long as I get chance to return the favor". She tells me softly looking at me before she returns her attention back to the TV, she smiles as she eats her ice cream finishing it up as well. I was a blushing mess as Starfire says that, I pick up our bowls and walk into the kitchen to wash them. My heart thumps inside of my chest, I'm trying so hard not to fall for her but it seems like it is failing. Starfire definitely has gotten into my heart and she doesn't even know it, maybe one day I'll be brave enough to let her know how I feel. I sighed softly as I walk back into the living room with Starfire, sitting next to her enjoying our show together. I leaned against the couch as I get comfortable to enjoy our show. "We'll stay for a bit at the party tomorrow, then we'll come home afterwards. We don't have to stay until it's over since it lasts until 10:00 PM I rather, be home by at least 7:39 pm since we will have to be with everyone Sunday that should be enough for us to enjoy some food, dancing, chatting with some people, and maybe talk to Bruce". I tell Starfire looking at her from the corner of my eye, she nods at me understanding what I am telling her. "I think it'll be a great time too, I've never worn the dresses you brought for me. But I have the perfect dress picked out, don't worry Dick everything will be okay". Starfire smiles as she reassures me that everything will be okay. She smiles at me softly looking at me, I feel better knowing that everything will be okay. With Starfire by my side, I think the party will be fun plus Raven will probably be there with Garfield, just because he was fired from the  company doesn't mean he isn't allowed to come. So maybe it won't be miserable like how I thought it would be maybe I could actually have fun with my friends, and not be as miserable as I was last year but only time will tell when it comes, I just really hope nothing ruins Starfire's day tomorrow because she deserves to have fun and be treated like the queen she is. Starfire and I continued to watch TV for the night until we both slept, on the couch with her head on my chest and my arms safely around her waist protecting her.
