Chase's POV-
Even in the dark isolation, you can hear the thunder crashing against the cell walls, sending a huge quake erupting across the facility. Sometimes the judder made me question the stability of the building, almost as if the thunder was pulling the building off it's supporters.
I sat in the corner of the room, hugging my knees in attempt to gain a bit of heat. Rain fell down through multiple cracks in the roof, creating a damp patch on my hair. The rain seemed to always be able to reach you, no matter where you were in the cell. That just seemed to add to the coldness.
As I sat, huddled in the corner of the room, I started thinking back to what Gordon was saying to someone else little under an hour ago. It turns out that the amnesia problem that seemed to have struck me in my early days of being in the facility was faked. Just another experiment conducted by the scientists here. They were injecting me with some type of homemade drug, making selective memories fuzzy. Like an amnesic effect. They've stopped doing it now, since they know that it works, and I've regained all memories about my family. Adam, Bree, Leo, Mr Davenport, Tasha, and Eddy (who doesn't really count). So now I know, I truly am just a lab rat.
Another growl of thunder pulled me out of my thoughts, making me jump slightly at the same time. It was quiet, although it usually is down in the cells. I sighed, and leaned against one of the walls. I closed my eyes, listening again to the rain splash against the concrete floor, and echoing around the walls. I'd usually use my bionics to occupy myself during this type of situation, but the bionic signal dampener on the cell roof refused to let me do so. Gordon also allowed to have my capsule kept in this cell room, but it just adds to the pain of missing home.
I twitched slightly, hearing several footsteps approaching, along with two voices whispering to each other. I opened my eyes, straining to catch what the two were saying. The footsteps stopped, making it easier to hear. Both were male, one sounding older than the other. The older one was undeniably Gordon, being the only one in the facility with a Scottish accent. The younger man, however, must have been new, since I'd never heard him before. He sounded like he was in his twenties, which is pretty young to be an FBI agent in my opinion, but was definitely American.
"I really don't know about this Lahey" Gordon was saying. "What if something goes wrong? The boy's too young and too valuable to lose".
"Oh for gods sake Gordon!" The younger man, Mr Lahey, was saying. "You've grown too fond of the subject! It's holding you back!"
"Don't call him subject" Gordon told him sternly. "He may be different, but he's still a human being, and deserves to be treated like one".
"This is exactly what I'm talking about!" Lahey shouted, almost angrily. "You were put in charge of his operation because you've shown no emotion towards past projects. But then this kid turns up and you throw all professionalism out the window!"
"Exactly!" Gordon defended. "This is my operation, and I'll run it however I like. Plus, whatever you plan on doing to him, will change him. He won't be the same."
"True, the sub... Chase, won't be the same afterwards, but he'll be better. More willing, more obliging!"
"I'm not agreeing to this Lahey, and that's final".
Lahey sighed. "Look, Gordon, you're a good agent, one of our best, but your compromising everything we're working towards here. I've got no choice but to remove you from this base".
"You can't do that!" Gordon protested.
"As your supervisor, I kind of can" Lahey replied calmly.
There was silence for a while, and then someone left. I heard the other person exhale, then footsteps came closer to my cell, and the door opened.
The younger man, Lahey, entered. I was right in saying he sounded young, as he looked about twenty-four. He was also reasonably good looking, with tanned skin and pale green eyes. Not saying that I'm into him or anything, but I hope I look as good as that when I reach my twenties.
He coughed, and squatted down so that we were at the same eye level, counting that I was still huddled on the floor.
"Hey Chase, can I call you Chase?" He asked, a smile on his face.
"Call me whatever, I guess" I told him with a shrug.
"OK, then. Well, I'm Agent Lahey. I'm taking over Agent Gordon's position for a while".
"Why?" I asked, not trying to sound like I already knew due to overhearing their conversation.
Lahey laughed. "Yeah, these rooms aren't exactly sound proof" he said, smirking. "Well, you've already kind of heard why I'm taking over, but I'll tell you where he's going anyway. We're sending him back to the cyber division back in Scotland. He'll be back in a few years, maybe, but you won't see anymore of him around here for a while. He leaves tonight".
I nodded. Lahey pretty much just answered everything I was going to ask.
"So", I said, my voice shaking a bit. "What are you planning on doing that'll supposedly 'change me'?"
"Well," Lahey said, somewhat reluctantly. "I'm assuming you heard about the amnesia testing that we tried out on you a while ago?"
I nodded, dreading where this was going.
"We were wanting to give it to you again, but more permanently this time. Only for specific memories, we're not planning on leaving you completely clueless, just the ones about your family and the hardship you went through with them".
"What?" I asked, completely confused.
"You just won't remember the abuse they gave you. Things like your brother throwing you around all the time, all those short jokes, the testing your claimed dad did on you... Things like that".
"Firstly, how the hell did you know all about that!? Secondly, that's basically my whole life you're erasing there".
Lahey shrugged. :Answer to question one, we did some digging. It's my job to be nosy about these sorts of things".
I gave him a 'fair-enough' shrug.
"And, we don't have to erase your memories if you don't want to. Tamper with them slightly is more like it. But, don't think about it like us doing it to hurt you, making you a sort of lab rat or whatever. We're doing it to help you. I know you're denying it, but you're gonna be staying here for most of your life. By doing this, we're offering you a second chance. You can live up to your full potential, becoming one of the best agents the FBI, the world, has ever seen. You could say it's you destiny, if you believe in that sort of crap".
I nodded. The way Lahey put it, it didn't sound so bad.
He stood up, stretching a bit. "But it's up to you, Chase" he continued. "We won't do anything more without you saying we can. Just think about it for a while, OK?"
He made his way out the door, the door being only just ajar before I shouted "Wait!"
Lahey's head popped back through the door, an eyebrow raised.
I sighed. "I'll do it".
Lahey smiled. "I knew you'd come to your senses". And with that, he left, slamming the door behind him, returning the cell room to a quiet darkness.
