Natsai Onai's POV

"I am in love with Ominis Gaunt," Carolyn said in a dreamy voice.

"What? Is that a joke?" I chuckled.

Carolyn threw a pillow at me. "Natty! I am serious!"

Was she serious? Of course not. I raised an eyebrow at her. "Is that so? Since when?"

"Always, I guess..."

All I could think was why her voice was sounding weird and annoyingly smooth, and her gaze was lost in the distance. She was never that obvious about her crushes, not even during the past year she pretended to not care about Sebastian Sallow.

Odd, but I played along. I sat on the edge of her bed, next to her.

"Tell me more, then..."

She took a deep breath. "Today we were class partners in Potions... His hands are so smooth... His hair and his tie are always pristine... Oh, Natty... I wish I could touch his perfect face..."

It took a big effort for me to not laugh. That was cheesy as hell. Cringeworthy.

"Huh, I see..."

"And I love visiting his grandmother. She is so good to me. She said I am like the granddaughter she never had...I mean, if his family likes me, he has to like me too, right?" She giggled and kicked her feet.

I regretted ever complaining about her being so closed about her feelings. I always wanted her to open up more, but that... I won't lie, it was amusing to some extent. But odd, nonetheless.

I stood up and placed my hand on her shoulder. "Why don't you rest for the day? It will pass... I guess..."

"Okay..." She tucked herself in, with a bright innocent smile. "Natty...?"

"Yes, Carolyn?"

"If I sleep... do you think I'll dream about him?"

I chuckled discreetly. "Huh... I hope so?"

Carolyn closed her eyes excitedly with a silly smile and fell asleep.

As much as I was entertained, I knew that crush would pass. I was sure of it.

*****

It was early March, the snow had almost completely melted as we approached spring. Winter in Britain was dreadful - about a month ago, I celebrated my birthday amidst a snow storm, while in Uganda I always held summer parties. All of this to say, March's temperatures positively impacted my mood.

I arrived earlier at Potions, as always. My station mates, Garreth and Leander, were already up to something, as always...

I organized my material, eavesdropping on their conversation. Nothing relevant ever came out of any of their chats I happened to hear, but I wasn't eager to engage and change the subject anyway.
