Sebastian Sallow's POV

"SLYTHERIN!!" The Sorting Hat's announcement echoed across the Great Hall.

I clapped vigorously, seeing another boy being sorted into the best house right after my sister and me. Another two students had been sorted so far: one was the Headmaster's son, and the other was a girl with long dark hair, who was already sitting with the older Quiddich players.

The freshly sorted boy's wand lit in red and then he made his way to our table. He stumbled when the tip of his boots got caught at the edges of the bench, but he managed to take a seat next to me.

"Hey, mate," I poked him with my elbow, whispering. "Your wand is glowing the wrong colour there. Were you expecting to be sorted in Gryffindor?"

The skinny boy blinked rapidly, only then realising I was talking to him, but still not looking directly at me.

"Me??" He squeaked. "No, not at all. Every single one of my family members is sorted into Slytherin."

"Lucky you then. My father always said I'd be a Ravenclaw, but I never wanted to be anything else other than a Slytherin, just like him. He used to be a Professor here. As they say, the Sorting Hat takes one's intention into account... "

Anne chimed in and proudly said, "Our mum was also a Professor! They would be sitting with the other faculty members if they were still here. You see? Up there?" She pointed at the group of Professors.

The blonde lad stuttered. "I... Uh... I am afraid I can't see... I am... blind."

"But I just saw you walking around and getting here," Anne commented, confused.

" Thus the lit wand," He replied. "My... my favourite aunt came up with this incantation a couple of months ago, to help me navigate by myself. I'm still getting used to it."

"Whooaaa!!" I replied, mesmerized. "Anne, do you see that??!!"

His head tilted down and he blushed.

"That is brilliant!!" Anne exclaimed.

I added, "I know some spells too. And I like reading books. Sallow. Sebastian Sallow!"

I extended my arm, only then realising he wouldn't see my movement. So I pulled his forearm and took his hand on mine for a handshake. He gasped, widening his eyes at the energetic movement.

"And this is my twin sister, Anne Sallow!" I introduced her, then she took his hand delicately.

He swallowed hard. "I... I'm Ominis. Ominis Gaunt."

Odd lad, that one. That was the first time I heard someone give their first name rather than their last name, rather than throw in their last name first to make an impression.
