His PoV
"Please, Thanyong, just this once! Pretty please?" Leiannah pleaded over the phone.
I sighed heavily. "Lei, I can't right now. I'm in the middle of school. If you want cookies from Dulce, ask Tita Talya. I'm busy!" I replied, feeling a bit irritated.
"But Thanyong, please! Your cafeteria has Dulce, ours doesn't. I'm your only girl cousin, remember?" she persisted.
"You might be my only girl cousin but you're as annoying as all the others combined," I retorted, trying to keep my voice level as I left our library.
"Bata pa kaya si Isaiah at Oakley!" she grunted.
I smirked. "Now you found the logic."
She hissed out of annoyment. "Alam kong matalino ka Thanyong and I am not as smart as you. I don't have time for your logic. I only have 10 minutes left. I'm outside your school. The guard won't let me in," she quickly demanded before ending the call.
I shook my head and hissed. Why would that girl come here even though she knew the guard wouldn't allow outsiders?
I hurried to the cafeteria to buy the food that my oh-so-considerate cousin demanded. As I was leaving, I accidentally bumped into a young girl holding croissants. It was an accident and I forgot to apologize, but her sister shouted. It was familiar...so familiar that I remember someone from my childhood.
"Senior! Watch where you're going! Nasaktan yung bata, hindi ka man lang ba magsosorry?!" a girl shouted from behind me, but I didn't have time to respond and left with the Dulce Salvacion. Her voice was familiar... I had heard it.
I turned around to face Leiannah, looking pale.
"Oh no! Did I rush you too much? I'm sorry," she said, looking at me apologetically.
I caught my breath. "I'm... okay," I managed to say, handing her the croissant she had asked for."Thanks to you, I have an enemy now."
I didn't wait for her response as I was in a rush. I needed to get back to the library for our group research. While waiting for my groupmates, I decided to read a random novel, but then I bumped into a girl. Her amber eyes and the way she talked captivated me. And I felt like I was caught in a trap.
I cleared my throat and picked up the books she had been holding, but she kept staring at me.
"Miss? Are you okay? You seem to be lost in thought," I asked, concerned.
"Yes, I am okay, thank you, Señor," she replied.
Her Spanish accent caught me off guard. The world seemed to stop and the only thing I could see was her. What was happening to me?
"Here are your books. Be careful next time. You could get hurt. De nada, señorita. And I'm sorry," I said, handing her the books. She looked shocked, as though she hadn't realized she had dropped them.
She asked for my name, but I stayed silent, studying her face. She looked so beautiful but familiar at the same time. Is she?
"It's okay if you don't want to say it. I just wanted to thank you before I leave," she said, smiling at me and bringing me back to reality.
"You're welcome. My name is Nathan Limuelle," I said, but she had already turned away. I wasn't sure if she heard me, but I hoped she did.
Even as my groupmates and I discussed our presentation, her graceful smile kept appearing in my mind.
"Vice pres, tinatanong ka ni Iris," one of my classmates said.
I looked up at them. "Our presentation is done, you can leave now," I announced. I waited for my groupmates to leave the library before I turned to face her.
