The gate of the faux cityscape that I'll be kicking robot butt in looms overhead as everyone gets stretching. Present Mic explained that there wouldn't be a countdown because of the unlikelihood of that a countdown would be in a real villain vs. hero situation, so the anxiety is visibly spiked among myself and my competitors. I sigh, reaching down to touch my toes and get a good hamstring stretch, although I can barely get my hands on my ankles because of my inability to be flexible. All I'm waiting for is the gates to be open, not a ding to signal it, nor a shout from Present Mic who's observing from above. I completely ignore everything except for the gate and the students I could hurt if I trampled them.
The gates have about a sliver of gap between them, and that gap barely grows before the gate flings open and the shout of Present Mic rings around my ears. My legs are already moving once the first syllable leaves Present Mic's obnoxiously loud mouth, swerving around students who stand there like deer in headlights and curving a sharp left. I was always known in my family for having a sixth sense, which comes along with my quirk: Karma, so I may not be the fastest runner, but I was the first to pick my feet off the ground, so I got a pretty decent start.
Robots scatter the streets of the faux city, but I stay to the back alleys where my stealthiness can be used to give me the upper hand... hopefully. I sprint into the shadows of a building and catch my breath, activating my quirk to prepare myself, "Patience is crucial..." I remind myself, although I can feel my legs start to twitch with anticipation, "Be patient..." I take a deep breath. In... Out...
"Ah screw it."
I rush out of my hiding place, energy building up in my legs from my quirk as I duck under the mechanical arms of three or so robots that built up in the time I tried to be patient. My body automatically absorbs the karma given off of these robots and I deal the blows back to them, kicking one in it's mechanical kneecap, one in it's robo-crotch, and I manage to jump high enough off of the first two corpses to get a solid kick to the third one's face. I then flail my arms around and fall to my ass on the concrete, completely un-graceful in my descent.
I rub the sore spot on my back end and walk down the next alleyway to find two more robots lounging around in wait. I screw sticking to the shadows once again and go on a frontal assault. I'm definitely going to pay for this later when I need stealth. I remark, peeling a sheet of metal off the first robot corpse that I just took down and crumpling it into a molten, metal energy ball that I chuck at the second one. The chunk clears a hole through the center of it's head and it crumples to the ground with a crash, the metal ball lodging itself into a building wall.
My mind ponders what would happen if this was a real city and I take a moment to pause, "Gotta work on control." I critique myself aloud before I move on to the next alleyway.
This continues until the two-minute countdown. Find robots, try to be patient on the next batch, screw being stealthy, kill robots, repeat. Kind of boring, if you ask me. Kurogiri has definitely put me through worse.
That's until something interesting happens, though.
...Meanwhile, in the observation room...
All Might glances at the screens that don't have Midoriya occupying them, although none catch his attention until he sees glowing green eyes with white pupils glancing out from behind a building within the building's shadow. He nearly jumps from his skin, but when he sees the girl Principal Nezu had recommended take the exam emerge, he relaxes slightly. I was not expecting that... He admits to himself.
He looks to find Principal Nezu staring at that screen with a glint in his beady little eyes, manically chuckling quietly to himself. Okay, maybe I should have... He nods to himself, looking back to the screen Midoriya is on, internally cheering for his apprentice to pass.
Aizawa looks at the mouse that's snickering uncontrollably from his scarf and looks at the screen he's so fixated on to find a student with glowing green eyes and white pupils rush toward the center of the city where the zero-point robot starts to wreak havoc on the faux buildings. Interest piqued- albeit not much- at the girl's bravery, Aizawa watches to see what she'll do next.
With her blonde, curly hair flowing behind her and tank top and sweatpants combo flowing in the dusty, debris-filled breeze, she charges the robot. Aizawa finds this reckless and unamusing, and Principal Nezu falls silent after his little giggle fit, but before they look away from the screen, they watch the girl go into a dust cloud.
With their view blocked from seeing anything further, they go back to watching all of the students on the various camera angles that are displayed on the televisions.
...Back with Hinako...
My gaze sweeps across the debris-filled air, looking for the student I saw trapped under crumbled building materials only moments ago. The robot draws near, making my heart pound in my chest, blood thrumming in my ears along to the beat of it. I glance around, not wanting to give up on the student that got stuck and hope they make it out. I'm not that kind of person.
Faint groans catch my ears and I rush in the direction they came from, my stubby legs going as fast as they can. Within a few seconds I find the boy, his black hair blending in with the clearing atmosphere. His skin is... hardened, like rock or steel, and he's trying to chop away at the building that covers his body below his torso, "Hey!" I shout, my voice running away from the anxiety in my mind for a moment, "Are you okay? Can you make it out?"
"Yeah! And... not yet." He shouts, still beating his hardened arms on the debris that covers his lower body. I run over to him, making him gasp slightly when his gaze locks onto mine, "I was trying to save someone and got myself stuck." He admits sheepishly, taking a break from chopping away at the rock, "I'm fine physically, but hardening my whole body is taking it's toll on my stamina."
"I'll help you out." I smile warmly, coughing as more debris enters my lungs, "Just don't un-harden, I guess." I rub my hands together and touch the boy on the shoulder quickly, absorbing the good karma he's sending towards me and the good karma I sent towards him. Then I put the tips of my fingers underneath the large slab of concrete and send all of the good energy coursing through my body, allowing me the strength to lift the slab enough to adjust my grip and push it up with my palms.
The debris-filled air slowly dissipates as the small concrete pieces and stones settle on the ground, and I gain the strength needed from the bad karma I stored up earlier to push the slab up and send it crashing to the other side. I then deactivate my quirk and lend a hand in helping the boy up. He dusts himself off, "Thanks for the help."
"Anytime." I chuckle, "I figure you'll become a great hero, being that you risked yourself to save someone else."
"You're going to be a totally awesome hero too!" He exclaims, "You saved me, which was so manly!"
I guess I should mention we only started a full-on conversation because the timer had already gone off and the two of us were walking back towards the gate, "It wasn't really my intention to become a hero, someone said to take this test, so I did. I'm actually planning on going into the support course."
We continue talking about odds and ins as we go to get a checkup from the school nurse. Having heard a rumor from some of the other students on the way about a boy who's body got destroyed because of his quirk, we decided to just go to take the written exam along with the others that weren't very damaged or not hurt at all out of respect for his health.
What a day. I remark.
