CYRUS
After I make the threat, Des removes his grasp around my mate's arm. Yet he lingers, gaze on Koa and I want nothing more than to gouge his eyes out for even daring to lay them upon him.
"Just go, Des," Koa looks away from the man. "He means it."
With an air of defeat, the bastard finally listens and backs off. He leaves us together in the darkness of dusk. I hate the ugly surge of envy inside me as I watch Koa watch the alpha walk off.
This 'Des' has to be the one that Koa mentioned briefly in the past, the alpha he believed to be dead. The only alpha he's ever loved. They have a history--one that I'm completely exempt from, and it's agony. What were they speaking about? Why is Koa so upset with him? Where did they live together before this, if they were childhood sweethearts?
We walk in complete silence back to the Pack House, the tension between us palpable. He's obviously still reeling over whatever interaction he had with Des, not bothering to interact with me at all. He doesn't even notice that we've passed his room and are now heading towards mine until I stop in front of my door.
"Oh--" he blinks himself out of his daze.
Des is the reason he's so distracted--the one stealing my mate's attention away.
My bitterness at being left in the dark throughout all of this comes out in the form of addressing my mate harsher than I intended. "I made it clear how I felt about him, Koa. You shouldn't have met with him, and especially not alone."
He glares up at me through those beautiful eyes, the rims red from crying.
KOA
"Do not start this bullshit now." I snap, crossing my arms in irritation.
His expression hardens at my tone. "Careful how you speak to your alpha."
I hate when he pulls the alpha card, damn him. "I can speak however the fuck I want, I think,"
His canines glint in the dim light of the hall, icy eyes flashing to that of his wolf. "So you let another man take you out, and now you're giving me an attitude?"
His words are careful, unwavering. I swallow nervously. My own wolf cowers in the back of my mind, disliking the uneasiness that comes with defying our alpha. He knows Cyrus won't back down as well as I do and I have to admit it's intimidating. He towers over me, muscles tensed and veins prominent. He's definitely pissed.
He's also extremely sexy.
I have to tear my eyes away, hoping he didn't catch me ogling his chest. "I-I've had enough of you alphas today. Don't like my attitude?" I turn away from him. "Then I'll leave,"
I make it about one step before he catches me, whirling me back around to pull me in by the waist.
"I told you not to run from me, little wolf," he growls--the deep vibration coming from his throat and it's enough to have whatever restraint remains in me snap, throwing my arms around his neck to crush my lips against his.
Everything happens so fast. In no time he's kissing me back, lips moving on mine with such intensity I can't help but feel dizzy from the lack of air. When my knees buckle, he plants his hands under my ass and scoops me up into his arms with ease. Heat pools in my groin that's now pressed up against his powerful, sturdy body.
Desperate for more stimulation--for more of him, I grab his face and tempt my alpha by nipping at his lip. The action earns me a pleased growl. He pushes me up against the wall and I gasp in delight as he rolls his hips into me, before his warm mouth claims mine again. I'm writhing with need, tightening my legs around his torso, just wanting him as close as possible. It'd be even better without our stupid clothes in the way.
