Cyrus doesn't need to be able to speak to get the message across. He growls lowly, his icy stare directed at me that's basically saying "I'm taking your ass back to safety. Now."
I'm tempted to tell him I was handling the situation perfectly fine before he came, but one look at his huge, intimidating wolf makes me think better of that.
He walks at my side, keeping close to me and almost curled around my body as we make our way back to the Pack House. I see other warriors heading back too, which means the attack has been dealt with.
But how many losses? And what was the exact motive?
I feel the hair on my neck rise suddenly and I whip my head to the side, spotting a shadowed figure upon the grassy hillside, eyes flashing in the moonlight. I squint, trying to make out if it's someone I know or another warrior when I hear a woman's voice calling my name.
"Koa! Oh, dear! Koa, are you hurt?" I turn to see Juliet running towards us, concern etched across her face.
"I'm fine. I promise," I smile at her as she embraces me in a tight hug.
"How could you put yourself in danger like that, darling--"
"MOVE! FUCKING MOVE!" Xavier's voice booms across the clearing, catching all of our attention.
What I see next makes my blood run cold.
Morgan. Bleeding. Limp in Xavier's arms.
The alpha is running towards the Pack hospital in desperation, pushing people out of the way. I put my hands over my mouth. No. No. This cannot be happening!
Juliet wastes no time, making after them. I feel faint, wanting to follow her, but knowing I will be of no help. She's the professional here. But Morgan--how could someone do this? It's evil. Pure evil.
"Mama!" Oliver comes running across the clearing a few seconds later, bawling his eyes out as one of his teachers jogs behind him.
"Oh, baby!" I scoop him up into my arms, burying my face in his curls. He's safe. Thank the fucking Moon Goddess. Relief doesn't come easy with Morgan still on my mind, but I am grateful nonetheless. Cyrus was right. Oliver was kept safe and protected, just like he'd promised.
I hold him close as he cries into my chest, making sure he's real. My baby is here.

The commotion has died down. Guards are still on the lookout, ensuring that no attackers are hiding anywhere, or watching the territory perimeter to make sure backup forces aren't coming. Other than that, I don't know much. Cyrus hasn't talked to me yet, having been ushered away by his father and other warriors to his office, so I have no one to clue me in as to what the fuck caused this.
I've tried to go see Morgan, but the hospital isn't letting anyone in who isn't injured. My bloody nose and bruised face don't exactly count. I get that they are putting in all their focus into treating the wounded, but it is agonizing, not being able to know what state Morgan is in or even see him.
I pray to the Moon Goddess that he will be okay. He has to be. Sweet, loving, beautiful-souled Morgan cannot be taken from us so soon. It's not right.
After Oliver is tucked in for the night, I lock our door and decide to see if Cyrus is available yet. I know that he's mad I disobeyed his orders and snuck out, but I deserve some intel, at least!
I find myself in front of his father's office door, cursing that it's shut this time. The last time I came here, I'd overheard Cyrus's dad's not-so-favorable opinion of me. Maybe I didn't want to hear that, but I do want to hear the conversation going on this door right now.
