When I come to, my hands immediately go to check my belly, only to realize they're restrained. I gasp, finding I'm tied to a tree, the rough bark digging into the back of my head. Des is nowhere in sight as my eyes adjust to the darkness.

That's when I start to panic. What is he going to do to me? Why is he doing this? My pup—what if they get hurt, what if they're already hurt from the chemicals he made me breathe in to make me go under? I start to tremble, choking on the gag he's tied over my mouth in fear.

This can't be happening. How can this be real? I thought I was safe now, from alphas, from my past. Is he going to kill me?

Goddess knows where he is right now. I don't understand why he's left me here. Are others going to join him? I'm so confused, so fucking scared.

Cyrus.

Cyrus. I need you.

It's selfish, I'm aware. But if I die now—he'll never know. He'll never hear the words from my lips. The words that I was too much of a coward to say. That I love him. That I should have fought for him. Even if I mean next to nothing to him now.

I shout to him in the void of my mind, but it's useless. We never bonded, so we don't have a mind link. Who knows how far from the Pack I am now. I can't see any sign of life or buildings even in the distance. I'm deep in the woods.

"Mama!"

I whip my head to the voice's source, eyes widening as I spot Oliver running towards me from the trees. I try to call to him, but it comes out muffled.

He's out of breath when he finally reaches me, standing on his tip toes to pull down the gag.

As soon as I can speak, I say, "You shouldn't be here, baby! He's going to come back and find you!"

"Who? Did he hurt you?"

"Des. I think I'm fine, but I-I don't know what's going on—how did you get out here?!"

"I followed your scent. You didn't come back to the room so—so I searched the Packhouse. Then I went outside and I just ran when I smelled your distress—please don't be mad—" he pleads upon seeing the angry look on my face.

"You could have gotten into danger. You are in danger. You need to—"

"There you are," a deep growl comes from behind him, Des emerging from the shadows and tackling Oli to the ground.

"NO!" I scream, vision going red at the sight of my baby being restrained. "GET OFF OF HIM!" I pull at the ropes, desperate to break free.

"HELP!" I shout again when my struggles prove futile. If only someone could hear me—

"Don't bother. No one, not even dear old Cyrus, will hear you from out here," he snarls, tying my son's arms behind his back.

"Stop!" I feel tears prick the back of my eyes. "Please. What do you gain from this?"

"Don't act like I'm the bad guy here. I'm doing good, bringing you back to fill the role you were stupid enough to give up,"

My heart feels like it will beat out of my chest. "What the hell are you talking about? What role?"

"Zacan's Luna. Mother of his heir," he motions to Oliver.

My blood runs cold.

He's taking us back there. To that hellhole. To that place that holds those memories of torture and abandonment. No. No.

"Why do you look so shocked? Did you really think it was some lucky coincidence that I came to North River just months after you did? I guess having a pup so young stunts your growth, makes you as naive as one,"
