I know I promised to update sooner but my mental health has plummeted so badly these past few weeks so it's been hard to find fuel to write.
CYRUS
I feel sick to my stomach. Guilt and shame roll in like tidal waves as Oliver sobs for his mother. It was my fucking responsibility. To keep my mate safe, above all else. And I failed. I failed so badly that a monster now has hold of him. My delicate, little Koa, alone and scared and vulnerable, when he never should have to be. Because I was supposed to be there, as his alpha.
I deserve a fate worse than death for letting this happen. For being distracted with godforsaken Beau and my father's bullshit while the one thing that mattered was stolen away. To be hurt. To be abused.
I need to act, and fast. I'm still reeling from Oliver's words as I prepare, gathering my knives and holster which adjusts to my wolf's form.
Beau stomps across the room. "Cyrus, are you seriously going after him? It's the middle of the night!"
I ignore him. Why the hell wouldn't I? It's Koa. And I curse myself for letting Beau's antics get to me, paving the way for this to happen. Koa should have been by my side. Even if I have guards deployed to protect him, it's clear I can't trust anyone but myself to do so. He might still be here, then, safe and sound in my arms.
I am never going forgive myself.
But I can't ruminate over that now. I only have one objective, which is to save my mate. Nothing will stop me, even if I have to massacre hoards of Blood Pack warriors to get to him. They took my mate from me, and they are going to fucking pay for it.
"Cyrus! Answer me! I'm right here, and you're going off on some death mission for an omega that doesn't even want you?!"
"I don't care if he doesn't want me. I need him safe."
"But we were having such a good time!" he whines.
"Were we? Because I was thinking that maggots would be better company,"
His mouth drops open. "Excuse me?!"
I don't spare him a second glance. Scooping Oliver up in my arms, I hurry out the door to summon my warriors.
*
I've had them gather in front of the Pack House. I know I won't be able to do this alone, as much as I want to take off into the woods and find Koa as soon as possible.
"What is the meaning of this?" My father marches out, presumably seething that I've made the order to gather all the warriors he believes are his.
I turn away from him to face the crowd, projecting my voice. "The Blood Pack has taken my mate. I call on a force of ten of you to aid me in his rescue,"
They immediately burst into chatter and whispers amongst themselves, frowns flashing across several faces. I can't say I hadn't expected this. They disapprove of Koa because of his pup, and have made no effort to hide it. No doubt my father's influence at work. It also doesn't help that, to them, Koa is an outsider they feel no loyalty to.
"Are you out of your mind?!" my father interjects, the blood rising to his face. "We will not be risking our warriors, our people, over one measly, tainted omega none of us care for!"
I keep my face a mask of stone, despite the urge to pummel his face in. As if he wouldn't do the same if mother was taken from him.
