I don't stay conscious for long. Cyrus doesn't speak on what the alpha revealed about my dirty past, and I'm grateful for it. He must be holding back a lot because all he does is check to see if I'm okay in a gentle voice, intermittently kissing my forehead. I don't understand it. He knows I'm a whore now. A ruined omega. But still he holds me with tenderness, like I'm something precious.
Maybe it's because I carry his pup. And I know he said all those things back there, about how much he cares for me, how he'd lay down his life for me. But my brain won't believe it. The looming shadow of my doubt is too heavy, smothering me with its wrath. This is obligation. He doesn't love you.
I attempt to shut out the cruel whispers, keeping myself burrowed against Cyrus's chest. We keep on moving, and I slip in and out of a haze of exhaustion and pain, clutching my belly because it is the only part of me that matters now. My pup. Ours.
Please be okay, my baby. Mama is here. I attempt to soothe the growing pup with silent words, my heart hurting at the thought of anything bad happening to them. If Zacan's beatings kill my pup--I might just leave the world with them. I won't be able to bear it.
I can barely stay awake by the time Cyrus finds the others. I recognize Xavier's voice, straining to hear the rushed conversation. "They've retreated, but if they come back with reinforcements, we don't have enough warriors to—"
"The bastard fled?" Cyrus growls, clutching me impossibly closer.
"His men resisted, but once Zacan realized they were at a disadvantage they backed off, him at the helm,"
My mate exhales sharply, tense against me. "Fucking coward. I need to kill him. All of the fuckers. I can't risk them tracking us--"
"I'll cover our trail, Cyrus. Your mate will be safe. Then you can hunt Zacan all you'd like.."
The conversation fades out again, my vision going black and static. One moment, I'm leaving the comfort of his arms, only for me to be nestled securely in soft, thick fur the next. My mate's scent surrounds me like a calming drug as I realize he must have shifted, his large wolf carrying me through the forest. The tension in my stomach finally ceases with its entirety pressed up against him and his warmth, as if the forming pup finally senses daddy.
That's right. Daddy's got us. We're safe now. You're safe, my love.

I wake up on a soft surface, blinking my eyes open to see the familiar ceiling of the Pack hospital. Immediately, all chaos seems to break loose.
"MAMA!" Oliver cries out, flinging himself into my lap. Then Morgan screeches, dashing from his place in Xavier's arms to my side as tears stream down his face. "Koa!" he sniffles, reaching for me and I barely have time to acknowledge him when I turn to my other side to see Cyrus sitting with one of my hands encased in both of his, bloodshot eyes wide and filled with too many emotions to count. Juliet sobs into a handkerchief next to him, her head on his shoulder.
For a minute, all I can do is take it in. The concern and care emanating from these people. They were anxiously waiting for me to wake up. They're all surrounding me, intent to know that I'm okay.
My Oli is safe. My best friend and my mate are here with me. All I can do is tear up from gratefulness. I'm back home.
I meet Cyrus's eyes, lip quivering in anguish. I squeeze his hand, and he does it back, then I let go. I don't know how to face him yet. There is so much to address, I don't even know where to start. But I can't tackle it all now now. I need a moment to breathe.
Morgan fawns over me and Oli clings to my side like a baby. I can't help but laugh, however weakly, pinching the boys cheeks as he pouts up at me. "I shouldn't have run. I shoulda come with you!"
