I cradle my belly with one hand as Cyrus stares, averting my eyes in shame. A sharp pain shoots through my skull at the same time.

"You're pregnant. You're months pregnant," Cyrus grits out, eyes flashing.

"I tried my best t-to keep our pup safe. I'm—I'm so sorry," my voice is so weak, the effort of simply speaking too much. The world is spinning around me. I let my eyes close for a brief moment, head lolling to the side.

His grip around me tightens ever so slightly. "This is unforgivable."

He's never spoken in that tone, and it is terrifying. He doesn't sound like Cyrus. He sounds merciless and cold. Does he hate me? For hiding the fact that I was with child and getting taken with such precious cargo inside me?

"Zacan didn't kick me on my stomach," I attempt to reassure him. "I didn't s-swallow his... stuff, I swear," I shake my head. "The baby is untouched. I'll do everything I can not... not to miscarry. Y-your efforts won't be wasted,"

When I can bare to spare a glance up at him, he looks like he wants to kill something. Presumably me. Fear shoots through my body. I start to shake so badly that it feels like I'm seizing. Breathing gets difficult, my vision blurry with what seems like a never-ending stream of tears.

"Cyrus? W-What will you do with me?" I sob out, grasping at his collar. "Please don't l-leave me here. I k-know I did wrong--but he's going to c-cut me open!"

At that, Cyrus's countenance seems to shift, the icy edges of his face softening as he takes in my distress. He pulls me in close, cradling my fragile, naked form so gently that my wolf is coaxed back to the surface, whining for our mates comfort and protection.

"Koa, listen to me. I'm not leaving you. It's hard for me—" he swallows, teeth gritting, "right now, to keep a hold of myself, when all I want to do is slaughter every alpha who had a hand in this. What's unforgivable is that I let this happen. You're—" his voice breaks as he looks down at my bare stomach, "pregnant—the most vulnerable an omega can be, and I wasn't fucking there!"

I didn't know my heart could hurt more than it already does. "Don't say that. Don't blame yourself," I choke out, lips trembling with anguish. "I've done more than enough to push you away forever,"

He shakes his head. "This shouldn't be about me. I am getting you out of here," he presses a kiss to my curls, "You're safe now. I'm not leaving you. I am never going leave you. That you'd even think I would is something I will spend the rest of my days making right. Because there is absolutely nothing in this world, this life, worth more to me than your existence. Do you understand? Whether you bear my pups or not, whether you choose me or not. If I had broken down that door to find you--you gone, I'd lift my blade and follow after you the next instant. That is the truth, the only one there is."

Oh.

For a moment, I can only stare at him, mouth slightly ajar.

Am I dreaming? My mind can't wrap around the words he just spoke--to me. For me. How can I mean that much to him? How can my miserable existence be the purpose of his? That he would die for me? That he would leave it all behind and follow me to the grave?

I've never been loveable. I've never deserved much. I never considered myself to be anything but a vessel for breeding, maybe a mediocre mother at best. Certainly not the cherished mate of someone like Cyrus.

But here he is. Risking his life to rescue me when he had no idea I was pregnant. Looking at me like that and promising devotion.

"I'm so sorry, my moon." He caresses my face with a large, callused hand. "I should have told you this a long time ago. I should have kept you safe. We don't have much time, but I promise you--he is never going to hurt you ever again. I will make sure of it,"

My lip trembles with overwhelming emotion, so many things I want to say and ask bubbling to the surface, but before I can, a loud, blaring horn rings out. Cyrus jerks to attention, eyebrows dipping in determination. "We have to go. That was Lonnie's signal," he rises to his feet, gingerly scooping me up from the ground, securely wrapped in the blanket.

I'm worry that Cyrus's forces might be in trouble, but before I can react an agonizing jolt shoots through my stomach and I cry out, curling up in pain within my mate's grasp.

"Koa!" His eyes rake over me in urgency. "Did I hurt you?"

I shake my head. "N-no. It's my stomach. O-our pup..!" I cry out, limp against his chest as my abdomen pulses in pain.

"Fuck!" He barrels out of the room, turning down the multiple corridors, somehow managing to keep the majority of the impact from hitting me.

I curl my hands into his shirt for purchase, biting my lip to keep from screaming out. Everything hurts. I feel like I'm going to pass out. Or maybe worse, what if... what if I'm dying?

I need to tell him. I need to!

"C-Cyrus, I, I lo—"

"You can stop right there."

Cyrus halts. The voice chills me to the bone, so much so that I forget about the pain in that moment. I look to see who's blocked our path, eyes widening as I recognize the face of one of my many past tormentors in the Blood Pack. I don't recall his name. Just his cruel expression as he raped me, abused me with the other alphas looking on, waiting their turn.

This can't be happening. Why? Why did his path have to cross with ours? If he says something—!

"It's impressive that you got this far, I'll give you that. But I can't let you take our Leader's mate," he snarls.

A deep growl rises in Cyrus's throat. "He is my mate, scum."

The man cocks an eyebrow. "So you're the possessive type? Don't like when people touch what's yours? That's unfortunate, considering I've fucked the omega in your arms many, many times--"

"NO!!" I scream out, sobbing as I shake my head, wishing it wasn't true, wishing for the Moon Goddess herself to take the words he just spoke back, out of Cyrus's brain.

"I liked it better when you screamed with me inside you," he smirks, making a thrusting motion with his hips as he winks at me, and I feel sick. He looks back to Cyrus, "In fact, your little mate's been passed around more times than I can count.! You could call him the Pack fucktoy with all the cocks he's--"

Before he can finish his sentence, a throwing knife lodges itself in his throat. I gasp, only to realize that Cyrus has shifted to hold me up with one arm, using his free hand to deliver the killing blow.

But even as I watch the alpha slump to the ground, clutching at his neck and sputtering up blood, I feel numb. I can't bear to look up at Cyrus. I want to sink into the ground and hide away forever. I don't want to think about how Cyrus will take back all that he just confessed to me after hearing my disgusting past.

It's ruined. It's all ruined.

I'm sorry this is short, but I wanted to at least get something out for y'all. I reached a rly low point in the past few months. It hurt a lot because I'm usually a very happy person. The reason I'm telling you this is not to make excuses, I just don't want you guys to think I'm purposely making you wait. I know I am so lucky to have readers like y'all! I PROMISE I will never stop writing this, I love my story and you guys too much <3
