I know I haven't done content warnings in this book before, but due to the graphic nature of violence and SA in this chapter, I'm putting one here. Remember, this story is for mature audiences!

I become vaguely aware of being slung over someone's shoulder, the thud of their stride vibrating through my body with each step. My head pulses in pain, signifying a concussion, but all I worry about is my pup. The angle is awkward, the person's shoulder jutting into my stomach and putting pressure on the bump. It's not detectable unless someone takes a close look, but the thought of this bastard anywhere near my precious baby makes me want to murder him.

I remember now, through my brain fog, who it is. What he's done. Desmond. He is no longer the boy I loved. I don't know who this person is. He feels off, strange.

I am so, so scared. Maybe because I have a whole lot to lose. Those I care for, all of which I've been taken from. I could also lose this pup. I've already lost the one who, even now, is the only name that comes to my lips. My mate. The man I love beyond all compare. The alpha whose heart I've broken too many times to count. And now it's too late.

Des puts me down on the glossy wooden floor that I remember all too well. The same room where the nightmare of Zacan discovering Oliver started. I remember his men dragging me off to his chambers while he spoke with my son.

His son.

If only it were different. To have Oli, just the way he is, but without his tyrant of a father intent on ruining it all. It's my fault, that Zacan sired him, that because of that we had to run away and Oliver's hands were stained with blood. But it can never be undone, the mistake I made the day Oliver was conceived--being alone and vulnerable and weak when Zacan laid eyes upon me. Now I'm being punished for it. For giving this life and heritage to Oliver.

I can only hope my boy is safe, back at Nighshade Pack. He has to have made it. He has to.

"Well, well, look what we have here," the damn voice that haunts my nightmares rings out. "My pretty little Luna. Returned to me at last,"

I finally manage to overcome my nausea and stand up on shaky legs, practically shuddering at the sight of his face. The light colored beard and the faint lines around his eyes. Those horrible eyes. The same exact as Oliver's. Only on my son, they don't look like the eyes of a monster.

"What have you done, Desmond?" I breathe, not bothering to look at him, my eyes trained on the threat before us. In that damn throne of his, looking down on me like the king everyone treats him as.

"Indeed," Zacan folds his arms, brows furrowing as he looks between the two of us. "I gave you a task of retrieving two things, specifically. My omega, and my son. So tell me, Desmond, why isn't my son here?"

"S-so, you see, I had him but somehow h-he got away, and by then we had to get a move on. I figured I could go back for him—"

"Go back?" Zacan scoffs. "Are you dense? The cover that made you so perfect for this mission is completely blown now, imbecile!"

"B-but I still brought Koa—!" Zacan stands abruptly from his chair, cutting off whatever Des was about to say. The larger alpha walks towards him with a menacing glare.

"Regardless of anything you've accomplished, you went against my orders. Who knows what the boy will tell Nightshade. And then I will have to pay the consequences!"

"You don't have to worry about them coming for him," Des shakes his head. "The Pack Alpha is Koa's mate, but they're no longer involved, he has a new omega and everything. Koa won't be missed,"
