After lounging on the couch for a while, the comfortable silence was broken by Rebekah’s sudden movement. Sabrina looked up, curiosity piqued as Rebekah stood and grabbed her jacket.
“Where are you going?” Sabrina asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
“I need to talk to the Salvatores,” Rebekah replied, not meeting her gaze.
Sabrina sat up, her brows furrowing. “I want to come with you.”
Rebekah sighed, clearly agitated. “It’s not necessary, Sabrina. I can handle this on my own.”
Sabrina stood up, her own frustration bubbling to the surface. “Why do you always shut me out when it comes to important things? I’m not just some fragile human, Rebekah. I can help.”
Rebekah turned to face her, her eyes hardening. “You don’t understand, Sabrina. This is dangerous. I don’t want you getting hurt.”
Sabrina crossed her arms, her voice rising. “I’m tired of you deciding what’s best for me. I’m your partner, not some damsel in distress.”
Rebekah’s patience snapped. “Damn it, Sabrina! Do you have any idea what it’s like to constantly worry about your safety? I’m trying to protect you, but you make it so difficult!”
Sabrina flinched at the harshness in Rebekah’s tone. “So that’s it? You just get to make all the decisions and I have to sit back and watch?”
Rebekah ran a hand through her hair, her frustration evident. “Yes, Sabrina, because I can’t lose you. Not now, not ever.”
Tears welled in Sabrina’s eyes as Rebekah’s words cut deep. “Fine. Go talk to the Salvatores. I’ll just stay here and be the helpless human you think I am.”
Rebekah’s face softened slightly, regret flashing in her eyes. “Sabrina, I…”
But Sabrina had already turned away, her shoulders shaking. “Just go, Rebekah.”
With a heavy heart, Rebekah left, the door closing behind her with a finality that echoed through the room. Sabrina sank back onto the couch, her tears flowing freely now. She felt a mix of anger and sadness, the weight of the argument pressing down on her.
Reaching for her phone, she called her sister Caroline. The phone rang a few times before Caroline’s cheerful voice answered. “Hey, sis! What’s up?”
Sabrina’s voice was shaky. “Can you come over? I... I really need you right now.”
There was a brief pause before Caroline replied, her tone serious. “I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
True to her word, Caroline arrived quickly. She found Sabrina still on the couch, her face blotchy from crying. Caroline sat down beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
“What happened?” Caroline asked softly.
Sabrina took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. “Rebekah left to talk to the Salvatores. We had a fight because I wanted to go with her, but she said it was too dangerous. She... she got really mean.”
Caroline sighed, pulling her sister into a comforting hug. “I’m sorry, Sabrina. Rebekah can be overprotective, but it’s because she loves you.”
“I know,” Sabrina whispered. “But it still hurts.”
Caroline kissed the top of her head. “Come on, let’s have a sister day. We can watch movies, eat junk food, and forget about everything for a while.”
Sabrina managed a small smile. “That sounds nice.”
They spent the next few hours curled up on the couch, watching cheesy romantic comedies and sharing a tub of ice cream. Caroline’s presence was a bandaid to Sabrina’s wounded heart, and for a while, she managed to forget the pain of the argument.
Just as they were finishing a particularly sappy movie, the door opened and Rebekah walked in. She looked exhausted, her eyes widening slightly at the sight of Caroline and Sabrina cuddled up together.
Caroline shot her a warning glance as if to say, “Be careful with her.”
Rebekah nodded, understanding. She approached the couch slowly, her eyes filled with remorse. “Sabrina, can we talk?”
Sabrina looked at her sister, who gave her a reassuring nod. Taking a deep breath, Sabrina stood up and faced Rebekah. “What is it?”
Rebekah’s voice was soft, almost pleading. “I’m sorry for what I said earlier. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just... I’m scared of losing you.”
Sabrina’s eyes softened, the anger melting away. “I know you are. But you have to understand that I can’t just sit by and do nothing. We’re in this together, remember?”
Rebekah stepped closer, taking Sabrina’s hands in hers. “I do remember. And I promise I’ll try to do better. I love you, Sabrina. More than anything.”
Tears welled up in Sabrina’s eyes again, but this time they were tears of relief. “I love you too, Rebekah.”
Caroline stood up, giving them both a supportive smile. “I’ll leave you two alone. But remember, Sabrina, I’m always here for you.”
Sabrina hugged her sister tightly. “Thank you, Caroline. For everything.”
Caroline left the house, leaving Sabrina and Rebekah to mend their rift. They sat back down on the couch, Rebekah pulling Sabrina into her lap.
“I missed you,” Rebekah whispered, kissing the top of her head.
Sabrina snuggled closer, feeling the warmth of Rebekah’s embrace. “I missed you too.”
They spent the rest of the evening talking, their bond growing stronger with each passing moment. The argument was behind them, and all that mattered now was the love they shared.
As they sat there, wrapped in each other’s arms, Sabrina knew that no matter what challenges they faced, they would always find their way back to each other. And that was all she needed.
