Chapter Seventy Seven
The Q Word

"I'M SO THANKFUL to be going back to work!"Eve beamed as she got her duffel bag ready for work.

"I'm glad you're excited," Eddie chuckled, "you almost ready?"

"Yep," Eve answered, "I'm driving," she told the man as she grabbed her truck key from the entry table.

Last week Eddie took Eve car shopping and they found a barely used 2019 Chevy Truck that Eve immediately liked. The previous owner said that his wife hardly used it and they could use the money for something else.

"Okay," Eddie snorted at his wife's excitement.

"Of all days I come back it's a day my brother is given a clipboard," Eve groaned an hour later as her brother, Eddie and herself started doing inventory.

"Trauma bag?" Buck questioned looking at his clipboard.

Eve pushed herself off the fire engine and walked to where the trauma bag sat, grabbing, "got it," she stated putting it in one of the compartments in the truck.

Buck slowly turned towards his sister, holding a finger to his ear, "I'm sorry. what was that?"

Eve glared at her twin, "a clipboard going up your ass." These words caused Buck to roll his eyes, "but check." She smiled sarcastically ready to beat him with the clipboard that made him feel like he had some sort of high power.

"AED?" Buck moved on and this time Eddie walked and grabbed it, kissing Eve on the cheek as he passed her.

"Check," Eddie muttered with amusement.

"Oh, no?" Hen's voice spoke as her and chimney joined the trio, "who gave that guy a clipboard. I thought you knew better."

"The guy had it before I got here," Eve retorted.

"Don't worry," Buck started as he turned to face the newly joined duo, "it's a kinder, gentler clipboard as is the man who hold it. Meet Buck 3.0."

"What, three?" Hen questioned confused how they got to the next update on Buck, "what happened to 2.0?"

"Two's left was crushed by a ladder truck and then his girlfriend left him but then he found a better one," Chimney answered, taking a bit out of an apple.

"Still not sure what inspired the software update," Eddie admitted.

"I'm just ready to let go of the past," Buck told the group which caused everyone to give him a look.

"Our parents lied to us all our life and you're letting that go?" Eve asked. Sure she was open to the idea of forgiving her parents but she wasn't going to let it go in two seconds. She let them meet Charlie for her birthday which went well and her parents said they were open for more communication.

"What's your secret?" Hen added

"Therapy," Buck answered, "as in our parents agreed to come to a few sessions with me, work out stuff out. Look, they're trying. I figured I should try too."
