Staring out of the window, I went 8 years back when his mother came to visit me.
Flashback............
I was sitting in my dorm room. Studying for the upcoming exams. It was next month. It had been weeks since I was holed up in my dorm room. 'I had to give it all this time.' I said to myself. It was my father's dream for me to go to Yale and do a masters in literature.
When I was buried in the dept of my books I heard someone calling me. When I looked up to see, it was the warden who had came to my room.
"Aadhya, dear are you studying?"
"Yes Ma'am."
"It's has been weeks you are holed up in this room. Studying is good but you must also live a little." She scolded softly.
"Yes Ma'am." She patted my head and smiled.
"Good, someone has come to see you. She is waiting at the front door. Go see her. "
"Okay." I closed my books and walked out of my room.
I was confused as I was not expecting anyone to visit me during the week days. It had been two months since my parents were deceased. They were the only ones who would surprise me like this. I felt the unbearable pain in my chest. I missed them. Here, no one knew I was the daughter of the great Aman Verma. I was just a common girl like others. My parents always taught me to be humble and to teach me these basic values they taught me to stay in all types of surrounding.
I reached the front desk to see a woman, around 50 year old dressed in a saree waiting for me. I tried to remember who she was but couldn't think of anything. I walked towards her unsure and nervous.
"Ma'am. Are you looking for me?" I said looking at the woman standing with her head held high.
"Are you Aadhya?"
"Yes, Ma'am. How can I help you?"
"I am Adhiraj's mother. Can we talk privately in my car. There are to many people around." I nodded my head and followed closely behind her.
I saw a white BMW parked outside the gate of my hostel. She opened the door and got inside. I followed her in the car, still unsure of why she suddenly wanted to meet me.
"I hope you know why I have come here?"
"No Aunty. I..... I don't know why you wanted to see me." I looked confused.
"Fine. It's better that I be very clear and direct about this. Adhiraj........." She paused and took a deep breath . "Is it true that you are dating Adhiraj?" She asked bluntly. I looked at the my hands that were resting in my lap. Nervously I nodded my head.
"Yes Aunty. We both are in love." I said twisting my hand in a fist.
"Do you know he is engaged?"
"What?"
"I knew it. He didn't tell you this." She took a deep breath and looked at me. "He is engaged. His father had arranged this wedding before he died. Adhiraj was just 14 years old then. While dying it was his last wish that Adhiraj get married to his friend's daughter. A month back, he told me he was in love with you. I reminded him of the arrangement made by his father on his death bed. But he completely refuses to accept it. If he doesn't follow this wish of his deceased father it will break me. I will cut all my ties with him. I hope you can understand how important it is to fulfil a dead person's wish. And...... and you know him how much he loves me. If I disown him, do you think you will ever be happy to know you made him an orphan? He already doesn't have a father do you want him to lose his mother also." Memories of the day my parents died flash in front of my eyes I didn't want Adhiraj to go through the same pain. I shook my head in denial.
