-Newsies Sell Papes-

Your first day as a newsie was decent, not much went on besides the fact you got to sell with a really cute guy.

_______

You were walking from your house to the circulation gates, as you got there you were met with boys playing around, talking, playing cards etc.

You looked around, confused to where to go. You knew nothing about selling papers. Or anyone who sold papers. As you looked around, clutching your bag in your hands, nervous as you noticed it was only boys. Well, they were called newsboys.

As you shuffled about a hand landed on your shoulder, making you jump in surprise and whip your head around to see who was the owner of the hand. It was a boy. He wore a blue collared shirt and a vest over it.

"Hey, you'se new, perty lady?" The boy spoke, retracting his hand from your shoulder. You fully turned around to face him and slowly nodded.

"Well, I'se Jack Kelly. Leada of the 'Hatten newsies." He introduced himself, bowing slightly, then taking your hand and kissing your knuckles softly. Making you blush. "Uh- I'm y/n.." You murmured softly, turning your head away from the boy.

He chuckled and you took your hand back.

"Sense you'se new, I'll set ya's up with a sellin' partner." He offered, at this point, you wouldn't mind selling with him, but youll take whatever help you can get at this point.

"Aye! Specs!" The boy you know knew as Jack yelled for a boy named - 'Specs?' Weird name.

"Yah?" A boy came jogging up to the two of you, looking at Jack until he caught your gaze, then wiggled his eyebrows. "Who's this Dollface?" He flirted, gesturing to you, looking back at Jack.

"That there is y/n" Jack replied, turning his gaze to you as well. "Do you mind sellin' with 'er and showin' 'er the ropes?" Jack continued, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Ill gladly teach the perty lady. Who know's, maybe I can teach 'er a few other things." He was a total flirt, your face erupted in a deep blush, turning your head away.

"See, my friend Specs 'ere is one of da smartest newsies in all of 'Hatten. Great sella' too." Jack explained, getting ready to start on his way to sell papers leaving the two of you alone.

"So's, whatta perty lady like ya doin' 'er? Whatcha story?" Specs spoke, turning his gaze back to you, grinning widely, placing his hands into his pockets.

"Uhm.. my mudda died and uh.. my fadda went crazy, so I escaped." You shrugged, giving a brief summery of your life.

"Ey, atleast ya's knew ya parents." He chuckled, adjusting his stance so he was crossing his arms and his feet were further apart. "Well's ya came to the right place if ya a runaway" He continued.

"Uh- yeah." "Dont wanna be the last on the streets. Lets go get our pape's, Doll." He grabbed your hand and dragged you along to the line where you would wait until it was your turn to get your papers.

It was a long, hot and humid day out on the streets. And Specs calling out completely BS but believable headlines.

"Man goes crazy; last day for many!" He called out, getting multiple people to come rushing up to him and buying a paper.

"Thats not in the newspaper." You corrected as all the people left with there papers, "You just completely lied."

"It's not lyin', just.. usin' imagination." He shrugged, snickering a bit to himself. "If ya want to sell, make a headline, try it." He nudged you along to go a little further.

"Uh.. Buildings burned! Trolley Strike takin' it far!" You yelled. Technically you weren't lying. You were actually telling the truth, thats what happened.

A few people came and bought the paper. "Maybe I could get used to this." You muttered. Looking at the coins in your hand. Specs came up behind you and put his hands on your shoulders. "You'se a natural!" He exclaimed happily with a large grin plastered over his face.

"Ey, Doll." He spoke, his grin returning to his resting face. "I gots a question."

You hummed in response and counted the coins in your hand.

"You'se got a boy?" He smiled, though it was softer. You looked over your shoulder at him. "Why..?" You muttered, face flushing a bit.

"Just wonderin'" He shrugged. Clearly he was asking for a reason. "No, I dont." You responded hesitantly, then turned your head back to your coins. You felt his arms creep around your waist.

Your body flinched almost on instinct, and you grabbed his hands with yours as they were almost locked around you.

"What are you doing?!" You exclaimed, pulling at his hands. "Whatt?"

"Why- why are you hugging me?" "Can I not?" "Well- no- its just weird!"

He seemed to be refusing to let go so you eventually gave up. You still had a few papers left so you started calling out headlines, eventually a lady came up to the two of you.

"Well arent yall sweet, heres a quarter." She smiled and took her paper. Your eyes widened, looking at the quarter she handed you.

"Well woulda look at that? Playin' couple on the street could make us hundreds." He chuckled, resting his head on yours.

This continued, you got multiple more dimes, nickles, quarters, pennies. This act was definitely making money.

"Ey. Maybe, it dont gotta be an act." He said in a hushed voice, "how bout's, you be my goil?" He hummed sweetly, almost as if he was trying to persuade you.

Your blush deepened. You were practically red as a tomato and he clearly wanted to make that known "Man's, didn't realize I had that much of a effect on ya, Doll." He snickered.

"Shut up.." You muttered, you had sold out of all of your papers. "I got nothin more to sell." "Then we should head back, yeah?" He then picked you up and threw you over his shoulder, you started to kick your feet and protest but he just laughed in response as he walked the both of you back to the lodging house.

He walked into the lodging house with you still over his shoulder.

"Specs! Y/n! Seems like you'se get along quite nicely" Jack grinned, wiggling his eyebrows. You couldn't see him because well, you were over Specs shoulder.

"You can put me down now Specs!" You exclaimed, he chuckled in response and put you down so you could turn around and face Jack yourself. You dusted off your pants as he put you down. You huffed and crossed your arms.

"This tension is too much to bare." Jack snickered as he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving you two.

Specs wrapped his arms around your waist again, you sighed. "Specs, let me go will ya?" You groaned, "Nahh." Specs grinned, lifting you up and taking you to the bunk room, he placed you down in your bed and gave you a quick peck to the forehead.

"Night. We gots anudda day of sellin' tomarra." He grinned, walking to his own bunk.
