-Romeo & Juliet-

A date. What a stupid idea. With this guy of all people too. If you hadn't lost that stupid bet. Damn it Racetrack.

You sat awkwardly at the table with the other boy named Romeo. He's always been a huge flirt. Especially to you since you're the only girl that works as a newsboy. He was shifting in his seat, visibly nervous, you'd thought he'd be more confident.

"Suddenly cats got ya tongue?" You spoke, breaking the awkward silence, you snickered. It was funny seeing the most flirtatious guy so nervous on a date. Maybe he didn't want to be here either.

"Ey, no cats got me tongue!" He exclaimed, furrowing his brows and acting offended, you just chuckled and he did too. "Just a bit jittery.." He mumbled afterwards.

You two started actual conversations with a few awkward breaks, you two bought dinner and Romeo paid, much to your surprise. While you two were chatting at the table, even if you already paid the bill you stayed a bit longer. You couldn't help but slightly fall for him. He was a sweet boy when he wasn't trying to flirt with you every two seconds.

A girl came up to him. "Heyy baby." She spoke flirtatiously and she kissed his cheek. DID SHE JUST CALL HIM BABY? Your smile dropped, but so did your heart. Who was this girl. You looked between them in confusion. Romeo clearly was a bit repulsed by the girl.

"Who's this girl?" She scoffed, rolling her eyes at you as she sat next to Romeo who was trying to scoot away from her.

"I should be the one asking you that." You sneered back, did Romeo have a girlfriend? And he never told you? Why would he even go on a date with you if he did?! The girl didn't respond, so you stood up and left. Romeo tried to yell after you, but you refused to look back.

You arrived at the lodging house, and immediately went to your bunk. You didn't cry, you were just disappointed he didn't tell you in the first place. You buried your face into your pillow and sighed. You didn't have enough energy nor feelings to cry. It was one date. And you fell for him slightly.

Romeo came back into the lodging house and looked around for you, then found you at your bunk. "Ey, Dolly. Dat girl meant nothin'! She was my ex!" He exclaimed, shaking you. You didn't respond verbally or physically. You tried to act asleep.

"I'se know's you'se not asleep." He shook you more, you turned with your brows furrowed and you were pissed. "Why dont you'se go back to your 'ex'?!" You yelled, gaining attention of the other newsies that were playing their cards or playing some other game.

"Shes just an Ex!" He desperately tried to explain as you sat up, "I don't love her!" He continued, trying to step closer to you but you just shoved him away. "Then why'd you let her kiss you?!" You snapped, you two were arguing like a couple when you were just friends. Maybe you two wanted to be more..?

You climbed out of the window and walked up the fire escape to the roof where Jack was. You sat down and hung your legs over the ledge of the roof, leaning on the bar that was preventing you from falling off.

You watched the stars, thinking. Until you felt a presence behind you. It was Jack.

"Hey, Dolly." He grinned sadly, going to sit next to you. "Romeo's real sad right now." He placed a comforting arm around your shoulder.

"He's gots no loyalty. I'se never liked 'im anyways." You mumbled, turning your gaze back to the stars. The black ink in the sky that reminded you of Romeos hair. Gosh.. you need to stop thinking about that boy.

Jack shook his head and chuckled slightly at your denial. "Ya knows. He's real loyal when 'es with a goil. When he's was datin' his ex, he refused to even look at otha goils. Also you'se is perfect togetha'. Like Romeo and Juliet." Jack informed, rubbing you arm sweetly.

You felt water slip down your cheeks and you came to the realization you were crying. Why? You knew you refused to be in love with him. You were in denial. You were just protecting yourself. You didn't want your heart broken again.

"Just.. thinks 'bout it. Sleep on it." He spoke, standing up and pulling you up with him, and he guided you to your bed. And tucked you in. Jack was like the older brother you never had. You were so grateful for him.
__________

You woke up the next day and you noticed Romeo was purposely avoiding you and any type of contact. This made you feel bad. You didn't mean to hurt him but he hurt you first.

The guilt ate at you. Your heart hurt. Seeing him avoid you like that on purpose.

You realized.

You love him...

And you hurt him.
____________

It was another day of selling. And immediately after you were done, you ran to Romeos selling spot. He still had a full stack of papers. Was this because of you?

You ran up to him, "Romeo!" You exclaimed, tackling him and hugging him tightly, making him drop his papers.

"What the hell?!" He exclaimed before realizing it was you, "Dolly? What are you'se doing?" He questioned, wrapping his arms around you as well and sat up.

"Stop avoiding me! I'se sorry! I'se know I'se was in the wrong!" You exclaimed, thats when the tears started to flow. You really loved him and he needed to know. "I'se love you'se, Romeo." You exclaimed, burying your face into his shoulder and crying softly, he was rubbing your back but you could feel his shock.

"I'se- I'se love ya too." He murmured, hugging you back just as tightly. He tilted up your chin and his eyes were glancing from your lips to your eyes. Asking permission. You simply nodded and his lips met yours.

You're Romeo to his Juliet.
