-Street Smarts-You and your brother, Jack, were out selling. Calling out headlines that have been 'slightly' improved. Once you sold through your whole stack, a boy caught your eye. Just some boy from the street that was walking out of a school.
Jack caught your gaze on the boy, and chuckled then snuck up behind you and scared the living shit out of you. "Some'un caught ya eye, eh?"
"What! No! Just.. spacing out.." You murmured, blushing like crazy but dismissing him. "You'se know what I'se said about datin'" Jack patted your shoulder and turned you from the boy and pushed you along in the direction of the lodging house.
"Chill out, Cowboy! I can walk!" You laughed, twisting out of his grasp and walking beside him instead of being pushed in front of him. Jack chuckled as well.
You two chatted as you walked back to the lodging house. When you entered, you were hit with the smell of sweat and boy. You looked to your side to see Jack was already making his way up to his 'penthouse'.
You walked to your own bunk and laid there for a bit. The boy kept coming to mind instead of your regular thoughts of where your next meal would come from. You really wish another girl was in the lodging house so you could talk to them about it. But nope. Only smelly broke boys.
You were deep in thought when you heard someone calling out to you. "Earth ta Scrape!" The voice belonged to none other than the most annoying boy in the lodge. Race.
"What do ya want, Racetrack?" You groaned, swatting him away with your hand as you sat up.
"Mush likes ya!" He cackled as he started to run as Mush chased him. "I dose not!" He yelled.
You knew Mush didn't actually, Race just wanted to mess with the both of you. You laid back down. Geez. Can this boy get out of your head. If he stays there you might have to make him pay rent.
Night fell and you decided to go for a walk. Clear your mind and get you out of that lodging house.
You walked silently, humming a soft tune as you kept your hands in your pockets. When you heard footsteps behind your own. You stopped walking and the footsteps continued, you turned to see who was following you.
It wasn't someone. It was some people. 2.
"Well looky 'ere Morris. We'se got tha perty newsie." The one you knew as Oscar spoke as he walked towards you. You stood there with your brows furrowed.
"What da ya want." You sneered, turning your whole body to face them. Your body tensed up, ready for a fight.
The two boys walked up to you. Oscar picked you up and threw you over his shoulder. You started to kick and scream hoping her would let you down. No use. His brother just put a hand over your mouth.
But apparently someone had heard.
"What are you guys doing?" It was that kid. The kid you saw walking out of that school.
"Dont worry your pretty head about it." Oscar smirked smugly, you shot the kid a look saying you needed help.
"Put her down otherwise im calling the police." The boy spoke. He didn't look the strongest out there, so you were glad he didn't try to fight the two boys. He definitely would've lost.
The threat was enough for the Delancey brothers to let you go. Oscar put you down, but as you walked away he slapped your ass then left with his brother. That jackass.
"Did you know them?" The boy asked, rushing to you and making sure you were alright.
"Technically yes. But I also hate them. Long story." You sighed, feeling slightly calmed down from how he was making sure you were ok.
You kept seeing him day after day, until he eventually joined the newsies because of his dad being injured. You met his little brother, Les. All was well. The strike went great.
After the strike was settled.. Davey kissed you. And you didn't hesitate to kiss back.
