Angelina & Nicolas

Angelina

I'd been two days since Nicolas left me, yes left me, because he never came back. He promised he'd come back, but he didn't.

He got what he wanted and left, I was so fucking naïve for thinking that was actually something, that what we did meant something, to think that he'd actually change.

When he left me that day, he left the house which I'm assuming to go to work, I guess some people never change. He was still the workaholic everyone said he was.

The cold water flowed down my flushed body. I didn't even feel the chilly water, considering I felt so warm inside.

Oh God, what's happening to me?

These feelings I had for Nicolas made me anxious. Not because he didn't feel that way towards me, or at least I think. But because my mind wasn't in the right place, I couldn't think clearly when my feelings were in the way. I had to look after myself here. He can get what he wants from me so easily, and when the time comes he'll leave all fine, but I'll be the one with the broken heart.

What happens when he comes back? Probably make some excuse that doesn't make sense, and the funny part is, I will fall for it.

He's probably forgotten all about you, doesn't even remember you exist. And here you are, all worked up over him. The annoying voice in my head chuckled, brushing away a tear, looking down at me with a smirk. Her eyes seemed to say, "Oh, you're so innocent. It's almost hilarious."

Suddenly, I didn't feel so warm inside anymore, I felt cold instead. I felt numb and alone. The beautiful bathroom all of a sudden felt bigger, darker and colder. I gazed at the mirror in the shower.

I stepped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around myself, and brushed my hair and braided it. Heading to my closet, I put on a pair of shorts and a long sleeve rib crewneck top. Walking back to the room, I checked the time, it was getting a little late.

I still haven't moved back into my room, the door has been closed ever since that incident and I wasn't going to be the one opening, without knowing what's on the other side.

As I descended the stairs, I made up my mind to go see how Kane and Kratos were doing. When I tried to play with them yesterday, Kane dozed off, and Kratos was just not in the mood for fun. Kratos was only in the mood for fun when I fed him.

Walking out the door I was greeted by Maksim, "Good evening."

I was still giving Maksim the silent treatment after he lied about being 'fired' while he was actually here, making his full salary.

I walked passed him, making my way to the dog kennel.

"Kane, I'm so glad you're up. I thought I wouldn't have any fun without you," I exclaimed, shooting Kratos a disapproving glance.

In response, he let out a growl, causing me to burst into laughter.

I lied.

Technically I didn't mean to. When Ivan knocked on my door two days ago, I had to head to the office, I thought I would've been able to get home early to see her, to keep my promise, but I didn't, and I regret it.

It's like, every time I said it was time to go, something popped up, and I got stuck. When midnight struck, I knew she probably wouldn't want to see me, so I just kept on working.

Every time I said it was time to leave something came up, and I got stuck. When the time hit midnight I knew she wouldn't won't to see me, so I continued to work, until I eventually fell asleep on my desk.

But today I already made up my mind about leaving, but I didn't leave my office empty handed. I just had this feeling that if I went back home, she would start arguing with me, or even worse ignoring me, and honestly, I wasn't mentally prepared for that confrontation. It felt like we were finally making progress, moving forward, and then I went and fucked it all up.

So I bought her something. I wasn't all too sure what she liked, so I bought her a jewelry, clothes and flowers.

I got back home and figured Angelina might be out in the garden. So, I thought I'd freshen up with a shower since I hadn't seen her, leaving her present on the bed. I ended up taking quite a while in there, washing away the two days of non-stop work and barely four hours of sleep.

As I stepped out of the shower, I put on some grey sweatpants and a black hoodie. When I left the bathroom, there was Angelina, sitting on the bed right next to where I'd placed her gift.

"I got those for you," I said, drawing her attention towards me.

"Nicolas, where did you go to?" she inquired, seemingly more concerned about my whereabouts than the gift I had brought.

This is exactly what I didn't want to happen.

Letting out a sigh, I made my way over to her, settling down next to her on the bed.

"Remember that day you overheard me talking about your father, and you wanted to know why I was bringing him up?" I asked.

It was the same time I left for three days, without telling her.

She nodded.

"Well the answer is nothing. When your father died he'd already hired people in advance to tear our businesses down. We didn't know who it could be, so we just called the person Dimitri." I paused, "For the past four years whoever is involved in taking down our businesses has been attacking us a lot recently. Our buildings, our men and other stuff. When I left two days ago, I really wanted to come back to you, but stuff just kept coming up and I didn't know how to leave. So I stayed, I knew you would be mad that's why I bought you the jewelry, clothes and flowers." I said pointing to it.

When she said nothing, I continued, "I'm sorry."

Tiredness hurt me, making my body feel like it's running empty, like I've been pushing myself beyond my limits.

I snapped out of my daze as she got up. I observed her gathering everything I had purchased for her, placing it gently on the bedside table. Then, she took my hand and guided me higher onto the bed.

"It's okay." She whispered, "But you look tired. So you should get some sleep."

Just when I expected her to exit the room, she climbed into bed beside me, planting a gentle kiss on my forehead.

Wrapping my hands around her waist, I pulled her closer, holding her tightly to my chest, and I hoped, with every bone, in my body, that it'll be us, in the end.
