SUNDAY, Cassie lined up on the grid like she usually does, still disappointed from yesterdays qualifying. She hadn't made it to Q3, not even close. She qualified P14 while Mick qualified P8. She'd underperformed.

"Last car is on the grid." Chris informed her.

She adjusted her grip on her wheel, taking glances to the side where Esteban's car lined up, hoping silently that he won't make a repeat of last week.

The lights went out, and she got off the line so quick she thinks for a second she jumped the start. She got through the first lap facing no incident with Esteban and made up two places.

When she heard nothing from Chris about a false start for five laps, she guessed that she was in the clear.

Lap 15 she'd managed to claw her way to the points in p10, but her tyres were facing significant wear already, and she knew she would have to make an early stop.

Lap 25, ten laps later she had to come in, giving up her points position so she wouldn't slam into a wall instead.

She rolled out of the pit box and Chris's voice came crackling over the radio. "You'll meet Ricciardo out of the pits, it's vital that you pass him."

"Copy."

As Chris said, she met Daniel coming from the pits and passed him out of the first turn.

"Beautiful, keep going this is good."

Lap 35. Turns out, an early pitstop saved her race, as she was able to stay ahead of other drivers when they made their pit stops and she found herself back in the points, sitting in p9 with a comfortable gap to p10 behind her. P8 was just ahead, but she was told to hold her stead.

It came down to the final five laps, when Mick passed Oscar, who put up an excellent defense for the previous ten laps.

"You're faster than him." Chris informed.

With that motivation, Cassie put her head down and hunted the orange car ahead of her. She was eight tenths behind, giving her drs through the first detection zone.

She crawled slowly closer to him, and in the matter of two laps, she was within striking distance.

"You know what to do." Chris spoke, distracting her.

"Shut up!" She impulsively shouted back, no time to feel bad about it.

Into the first corner of the second to last lap, she almost had him. She had her wheels lined right up next to his on the outside but he was ultimately quicker and came out ahead.. His tyres may be newer, but she managed hers more.
