SUMMER BREAK - FRIDAY
Lando and Cassie arrived in Cancun together just last night. It was Lando who proposed the idea, and it sounded so nice to Cassie that she just couldn't say no. Lando—presuming she was as tired of hotels as he was—rented out a beach house for the both of them.
They were getting ready for a casual brunch together. Lando could hear her music from down the hall. The lyrics were clear as day but he wouldn't dare ask her to turn it down. Not when she was singing every lyric with such unrestrained enthusiasm.
"Cass," he called down the hall, but assuming she hadn't heard him, he treaded down the hall to her room. "Cass," he called again, following the music into the en-suite bathroom. "Oh!" She smiled. "Hey, Lan." She took note of his appearance, becoming aware that he was ready to go. "Sorry, I'll be done soon, promise."
Her attention shifted to the bag of makeup in front of her, digging through it to find her mascara. She leaned close to the mirror to apply it. Lando leaned against the door frame and grinned at her, observing her outfit compared to his. She opted for a knee-length dress. With a triangle neckline and a halterneck that tied around the back of her neck. The dress exposed the majority of her back.
He had to admit, she was breathtaking in it. But Lando went with a pair of jeans and a basic t-shirt. "Did I forget to mention it's a casual brunch?" He teased.
Cassie's movements halted. She frowned, looking down at her own outfit, then at his. "Is it too much? Cause I can-"
"No, no. You look—" fucking gorgeous "—nice." He quickly corrected.
She still looked unsure, and it made him fully regret picking on her in the first place. "Are you sure? Cause now I think-" "don't worry about it. It was just a stupid comment." He didn't think she'd take it like this. He felt a bit guilty now.
When she put her mascara back in the bag and zipped it up, he pushed himself from the doorframe. "Ready?"
She nodded.
🏁
After brunch, Lando and Cassie found themselves back at the house. "I'm still thinking about that sandwich. I don't think I've ever had something that good." Cassie marveled, her tastebuds tingling at the memory.
Lando simply hummed in agreement, his mind elsewhere. Cassie—now sat comfortably on the couch—was quick to pick up on his distracted state. "What're you thinking about?" She asked innocently, her head propped up on her knee.
Lying to her was in extreme consideration. But if he didn't go for it now, he didn't know if he ever would. "Cass," he started, his tone hesitant as he moved to sit next to her on the couch. She gave him a look of concern. "I know it's a bit soon," she could guess where this was going now, but didn't want to interrupt. "But... do you- would-" lando laughed at his own struggle to get his words out. "Uhm, Clarissa, I really like you. And it's been about a month since our first date and I was wondering... you know, can we make this official? Me and you?"
Cassie tried not to laugh at him, but did a very poor job at hiding her amusement in her smile. "You're too cute." The laugh finally escaped her. "All nervous and whatnot." Lando scoffed at her teasing. "But yes. I'd like that. A lot, actually."
Lando sighed out of relief. "Great. Now I can tell you that you look fucking gorgeous in that dress." Cassie's laugh was unbridled, her head thrown back as the sound of her amusement rang out through the living room.
She placed a gentle hand on his jaw, a finger resting on his chin. Cassie took the lead, slotting their lips together in a sweet kiss.
Lando's mind exploded. He could hardly comprehend what was happening. His body buzzed with satisfaction at the feeling of her lips on his. And when she pulled away, he subconsciously chased her lips.
"Fuck, that was so worth the wait." Lando whispered against her lips. Forcing a breathy laugh from her chest.
🏁
A week later, they found themselves on the beach once again. It was the thousandth time they'd made a visit to the private beach. Cassie couldn't resist the white Sandy paradise, and Lando couldn't deny her wishes. Lando sat in his beach chaise while Cassie swam in the clear blue, sparkling water. He pretended to be busy playing on his phone, but he couldn't help himself from stealing glances at her every few seconds.
She finally caught his stare after the hundredth glance. "Come join me!" She waved him over. He could see her beaming smile from where he sat. "I think I'm good here, actually."
"Baby," she called, drawing out the word. She knew the combination of her and that word made him weak. He sighed, stashing his phone in her bag, and running down the beach to join her in the water.
When he reached her, she threw her arms around him. He used that to his advantage, and with his hands placed firm on her hips, lifted her and dunked her in into the water.
She resurfaced and pushed him away firmly. He hardly moved any. "Oh my god you ass!" She insulted, wiping the water from her eyes, and trying to fix her hair.
Lando dove under the water, and grabbed ahold of her around the knees, lifting her body as he surfaced. "Lando! Oh my—I regret calling you over now." She laughed, her head thrown back. When her soft gaze met his again, he let her down softly.
Her arms resumed their position around his neck. "Do you think we're going too fast?" Lando inquired, his voice quiet. Cassie shook her head before she could even think about it. "No. I think it's normal. You know... it's new. Better to get used to it sooner rather than later." She chuckled.
That was one of the many things he liked about her. Her ability to make a joke out of everything. Her lively nature. It was an enticing characteristic about her. And now it was entirely his to enjoy.
"You're always so right." He laughed, hands cupping her face. Lando swooped down, capturing her lips in his.
They moved in perfect sync, like they'd rehearsed this thousands of times, like the motions were natural to them. Despite the cold water, Cassie's entire body was hot.
Lando considered pinching himself. This was a dream, a fantasy. He feared that he was moments away from waking up, and this would all be some cruel creation by his mind. A dream quickly turned nightmare.
But that never came. He pulled back, gazing down at her, encapsulated by her sparkling eyes. But there was something... off about her.
"What's wrong?" He asked, hands sliding down her arms to lace their fingers together. She shook her head. "Absolutely nothing." She assured, reaching up to reconnect their lips.
Despite Cassie's words, there was something bothering her.
A feeling, lingering in the back of her mind, swirling in the base of her stomach. That this wouldn't last. Something would go wrong. Something would happen.
A feeling that nothing this good lasts. At least, not for her.
