FRIDAY
Cassie and Lando had not talked since Wednesday. They saw each other in passing and during the driver brief Thursday, but they only gave each other small smiles each time.
Two nights of sleep and Lando still felt extremely guilty for his actions. He felt as though he'd done something terribly wrong, even if he never did kiss her. Not only was the guilt looming over him, but the sheer stupidity of it all, too. They were colleagues for fucks sake. Rivals, even.
He didn't know who to confide in, who to go to for advice and guidance. There was one person he knew could probably help him, but he'd been putting off the phone call because he'd no desire to put his problems on her. Not again.
But he was progressively spiraling and any desire to not bother his ex girlfriend was slowly being replaced by the repeated voice in his head telling him that she could help him. So he woke up Friday morning, cursing out a "fuck it," and calling her number.
It took four rings for her to answer, wrapped up in white hotel sheets, her blonde hair a mess while she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"What's going on? Did something happen?" She yawned, looking exhausted and worried all at once. "Uh, well yes. Nothing major, I don't think. Sorry I don't mean to bother you but I figured you were the one person who could help me?"
Even through the fog of her groggy mind, Savannah put the pieces together pretty quickly, and knew exactly where the conversation was leader. She wouldn't let him know that, though. "Yeah, go ahead shoot."
Given the greenlight, Lando took a breath before explaining. "I did something stupid, like really stupid." Lando tried to swallow the lump in his throat. It did not budge.
"I was with Cassie, golfing, and I was helping her with her swing, totally not thinking of anything, and then she looked back at me, and she had this kind of sparkle in her eyes that was just so, i don't know, but I was thinking about kissing her, apparently for too long because she noticed and then turned away."
All the words tumbled out of Lando's mouth at once. If he'd made any attempt to stop them from doing so, it was feeble at best.
Savannah, already having heard Cassie's side, knew exactly what to say to Lando. "It might not be entirely bad, Lando. She could just be nervous or scared."
"Yeah but in Vegas-"
"Vegas was months ago. You've gotten to know each other now. People can change their minds, Lan."
"Yeah but I don't-"
"I swear if I hear you say the word 'but' one more time I will fly over there just to slap you upside the head." Savannah huffed. "Just talk to her. Trust me."
