SUNDAY came around quickly, and so did the race. Before Cassie knew it, she was rushing down the pit lane to make it to the anthem. Martin tried to stop her, but she rushed right past him, shouting apologies back to him.
"Trying to get a fine?" Paul joked, nudging her shoulder with his. Her rebuttal was on the tip of her tongue, but the singer vocalizing the Spanish anthem stopped her from saying anything.
When it concluded, Paul fled and Max caught up with Cassie. "Oh, hey Max." She greeted, a little confused when he stepped into line with her. "I take it you and Lando haven't spoken since Italy?" He asked, noticing over the last couple of weeks that the two of them haven't been around each other at all.
"No. I reckon he's mad at me." Max cocked his head. "What makes you think that?"
Cassie's eyes panned to the green of her race boots. "I wasn't exactly in my right mind when I... yeah."
"He didn't exactly protest it, did he?" Max laughed, nudging her. "If you're that concerned go see him later and apologize. I'm sure if he's actually mad at you he'll forgive you." Cassie nodded.
Soon, she was back in the car. The message, "last car is on the grid" being relayed to her through the radio. One by one, the lights ahead flamed red, the five of them holding momentarily before distinguishing into nothing.
Cassie launched quickly off the line. Lando, trying to cover her off, dove right into her line. She moved as far over as possible, her two right tyres nearly dipping into the grass. Lando didn't stop his pursuit and her tyres clashed with his. In an artistic dance, the both of them spun off into the gravel. Neither were carrying enough speed to crash into the barriers, but Lando's front wing bumped it. By some miracle, they completely avoided Piastri and Verstappen ahead.
"For the second time this season, Norris and Lucas have taken each other out!"
"And in a similar fashion to Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in 2016, too."
Highly frustrated, Cassie jumped out of her car, making a straight line for Lando. "Do you have an agenda or something? That's-"
"Cass not here. Everyone can see." Lando warned carefully, a hand stretched out to her but not touching her.
She huffed, realizing he was right. Having an outburst wouldn't be good for her image. She walked off toward the medics, Lando following right behind her.
