The Shanghai sun tried its hardest to warm up the city, but as it was late March, it's efforts were futile. A cool breeze weaves through the tall buildings, ruffling the legs of Cassie's loose-fit crème colored pants.
The city was bustling, loud cars creeping by and honking their horns, irritated at the slow moving traffic of rush hour.
Cassie opened the glass door of their agreed-upon meeting location. Stepping in and letting the door swing closed behind her, the outside noises became muffled, and the calm lofi music inside took over. The restaurant appeared to be family owned. It wasn't very busy, only a few tables were occupied by quietly chatting locals. That made it easy to find her friends sitting in the corner.
Cassie approached them with a beaming smile, her pearly teeth on display as her tongue just poked out between her bottom lip and her top teeth.
They both stood from the booth, gratefully taking Cassie into a hug. They all held each other tightly.
Her friends, Eli and Elena, were fraternal twins. They'd been friends for as long as any of them could remember. Their parents were friends before any of them were even born.
"Hey guys! Really cozy place you've picked." Cassie greeted, taking in the decor of the shop. The floor to ceiling windows out front to the street were heavily tinted, letting only a little natural light in. The rest of the light was provided by soft glowing ceiling lamps. The walls were all different colors, painted with traditional style art. Each picture had a different signature stamped next to the work. Cassie assumed they were each painted by a different individual.
"How has school been going for the both of you?" Cassie inquired. Eli was in business school, preparing to take over their father's fashion company. Elena was in medical school to become a pediatrician
"Actual hell. I just want my degree so I can work. I'm shocked there's any doctors at all because I think this is the hardest I've ever had to think in my entire life." Elena explained, her head propped up on her elbows and her hands on either side of her head stretching her face out.
Cassie laughed at the dramatics, and her face. She turned to Eli, ears open ready to listen to what he has to say. "Fine." He shrugged. Elena gave him the nastiest look with a hefty side-eye.
"Fine." The younger twin mocked. "We can't all just inherent all of our success." She rolled her eyes, taking a sip from her water. "Sorry, did I imagine the conversation where I asked you to co-own and you said no?"
Elena shook her head. "No. Doesn't mean I can't complain, though." She sassed.
