Silverstone. Clarissa's home track. Lando's home track. The attention would be on the both of them along with the three other British drivers on the grid.
The weather was nice, cool enough to not be sweating, but warm enough to be comfortable in a t-shirt and shorts. The occasional breeze swept through the track. Cassie had to twist up her hair into a claw clip to avoid getting temporarily blinded with every gust.
She was on her way to the Aston garage, hoping to find someone to accompany her on a track walk. "Cass," The call came from behind her. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was. Slowing her steps, she allowed him to catch up.
"'Morning." Cassie greeted as he stepped in line with her. "Hey, hi. Morning." Lando stumbled over his words. "So, last night," he started. Cassie sighed before he could get any farther. "Yeah it was just... I overreacted." She shook her head slowly, her eyes trained on her shoes. "I was a mess that night over... Tristan," she rolled her eyes. "And I didn't want you to think that I was just using you."
"I get it." Lando confessed and was met with a look of surprise. "Well, the way I said it insinuated that was a regular thing which..." Lando sucked air through his teeth, cocking his head to the side.
An idea coming to her head, Cassie's eyes lifted to Lando's. "Have you done your track walk yet?" Lando shook his head. "No." He answered.
They stopped outside the paddock rn Terence to the garage. "You wanna join me?" She inclined her head to the entrance.
He considered it for a moment before nodding. "It's definitely not going to help the rumors." He laughed, following her through the garage of a rival team.
He followed her out to the track, making small talk about the weather. "Yeah the wind was blinding me, so," she gestured to her hair. "It probably looks like a mess." She patted her hair, as if that would give her a sense of how good her hair looked.
"I think it looks cute." Lando grinned. Cassie hummed. "Charming."
They let the conversation fade. The both of them walked their home track in silence. They studied the track, looking out for any changes from previous years.
"How's your dad?" Lando's question came out of the blue, unprompted. Cassie looked to him, her eyes momentarily widening. "Oh. Good, yeah. He's stable. Out of the hospital." She smiled and nodded. "Kelli—my step mother—has been taking care of him." She shared, more solemnly. Lando noticed the shift in tone, but decided it was better to not comment on it.
"That's good. I should send him flowers, yeah?" Lando suggested, fully joking. The back of Cassie's hand landed on his arm as she laughed at him. "You should, that'll earn you some brownie points with him. Though he already likes you." She shared.
