Pon was helping in the kitchen the following morning and everyone was being so friendly. He couldn't help but smile at their chatter while doing his jobs, it was difficult to believe that all these kind and friendly people were werewolves like Jensen including the man who said they were mates.
Last night when he returned to the bedroom he had seen the sign on the door, for all his gruff words the man called Raz was kind and considerate.
He was tall and muscular and Pon had to admit that the guy was good looking, he wouldn't have a problem finding somebody new to love after he'd left but then he wondered why that thought should make his pulse quicken, why should he care about Raz finding someone else, he loved Jensen ... didn't he?
He had come to see Duane to try and get him and Jensen together, he wanted his best friend to be happy, shouldn't he feel more sad about it than he did? The only emotion he could remember feeling was anger and the feeling of betrayal.
Had it all been jealousy because someone was taking his best friend? had he mistaken his possessive feelings for love?
He wished that staying here was at least an option and that he was worthy of that man's love and the respect of his people but the truth was he wasn't, how could he be when the gods wanted him gone.
He had to bide his time and wait for an opening and then he would go, he had already rummaged through his bag and found a cell phone, a wallet containing some money, not a lot but enough and the note books that Raz had spoken about.
He had smiled when he'd found the candy fangs but then he'd thrown them in the waste bin, he had to stop hanging onto the past and move forward.
A quick look through his contacts list had revealed Raz, Jensen, Duane, Narong and Nakhun, a doctor's name and a hostel in the city, he wouldn't delete them yet, not that he would call them, he just wanted to hang on to the illusion that he deserved their friendship for a little longer.
When Raz had come back to their room last night he had insisted that Pon sleep on the bed while he took the sofa but they hadn't talked much, they were both wrapped up in their own thoughts.
Wiping his brow with the sleeve of his sweatshirt he washed dishes while the others baked then a woman called Waya told him to take a break.
The alpha, his alleged mate was across the other side of the house in his office where he was working with a man called Oon so now was his chance, he could grab his bag, skip out of the door and head across the fields to the highway he'd seen last night.
He rushed up to the room and wrote a quick note for Raz,
thank you for helping me alpha Raz, I will never forget your kindness,
I know you keep insisting that I am your mate but you deserve better,
I'm leaving, and don't worry, I'll take you're secrets to my grave.
I won't bother Jensen and Duane ever again, have a good life and be happy, Pon
He grabbed his bag and hoped that he wouldn't bump into anyone as he walked downstairs and luckily he didn't, they were all too busy in the kitchen.
He casually walked outside and after making sure that there were no people around he took off at a run in the direction of the highway, his chest was hurting and he ran as if the devil himself was after him not stopping to look back.
