I immediately touched the 'End' button on my iPhone, not wanting to hear the same thing for the millionth time. I sighed in frustration and ran my hands through my hair, before flinging my phone on my bed and laying down, looking up at the ceiling.

Those past few days, I had been trying to get in touch with my best friend, Lauren Jauregui, but she had been ignoring all of my calls and texts. I didn't even know why. We hadn't argued, and I hadn't said anything that could possibly offend her, so I didn't know why she was avoiding me. I knew I could easily go to her house, but I didn't want to just turn up uninvited; she might have not even been there for all I knew.

As I was thinking about the possibilities of why she may be ignoring me, I sat up, instantly having a good idea. It was almost like a lightbulb went off in my head. Why hasn't I thought of that before? 'Cause I was stupid, that's why.

I grabbed my phone and searched for the contact name that may have the answers I was looking for. Once I saw his name, I clicked call and brought the phone to my ears, awaiting their answer.

"Hello?" his deep voice echoed through the speaker and into my ear.

"Hey, Freddie, it's me, Y/N," I said happily, a smile forming on my face. Freddie was Lauren's boyfriend and he would obviously know what's up with Lauren. I mean, they were a couple. She couldn't ignore him, too.

"Hi?" he replied, sounding as if he would rather be anywhere but talking to me; this caused me to frown. "What do you want?"

Ignoring his cold tone, I asked, "I was just wondering if you have been in contact with Lauren these past few days? She hasn't been answering any of my calls or texts and I'm starting to feel like I've done something wrong."

"How would I know?"

"Well, you are her boyfriend...," I trailed off, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion. What was up with him?

"We broke up," he stated matter-of-factly. I didn't even hear a hint of sadness in his voice.

My eyes widened at his revelation and I questioned, "What do you mean? When? How?"

"None of your business," he snapped immediately. "Now leave me alone and don't call me again." With that, he hung up, leaving me to be extremely confused and also offended at his harshness.

I wondered why Lauren didn't tell me about their breakup; she shared everything with me. That's when it hit me that maybe that's why she had been ignoring me those past few days. Oh god, I thought, I should really be with her right now. She must be distraught.

I hurriedly pulled my shoes onto my feet, before rushing out of my house and to my car. I drove as fast as I could, but also as safe as I could, to Lauren's house. I didn't even want to imagine how she may look due to all of her crying.

Once I pulled up outside of the familiar building, I ran to her front door and knocked quickly. After a minute or so, the door opened and I braced myself for what she may look like. I didn't think I'd be able to handle seeing her in so much pain.

"Hey, Y/N," her raspy voice filled the silence. She was smiling at me. Smiling. Her eyes didn't show a hint of sadness and she didn't look like she had been crying. What the...

"Um, hey," I greeted in return, frowning in confusion. "How are you, Laur?"

"Good," she smiled brightly and stepped to the side to allow me inside. I walked inside and she shut the door behind me, before leading me to the living room. I took a seat on the couch and she sat on the single chair placed beside it.
