Your POV

I ran as fast as my little legs could carry me, which to be honest, wasn't very far. The branches of nearby trees would hit me as I rushed straight past them, and I felt them leaving their mark on my skin, but I didn't care. I just wanted to see where I could go, what I could do.

Eventually, I slowed down when I reached a small stream that was protruding through the shrubbery ahead. I had practically been raised in these woods since I was born, and in my ten years of living, I had never come across this before.

I had to be careful where I went when in this forest because mum said that there was territories, for people like us, and people like them. People like us meaning werewolves. People like them meaning vampires. Mum said that we were sworn enemies, despite living in a town with them, so we had to stay off their territory to avoid fights. Wars.

The town we lived in was only small, but big enough to avoid anyone you didn't want to see. Vampires and werewolves were the main occupants, but of course there were the regular humans, too. You could usually differentiate between the three, as some vampires still had blood stains on their clothes from previous meals, and some werewolves were a tad more hairier than others. But these were only minor details. If you weren't supernatural like me, then you probably wouldn't notice them.

I settled by the stream on a relatively large rock, and studied the sparkling water as it rippled down the forest. Streams of sunlight broke through the barrier of leaves above, highlighting the clear waters and allowing me to make out very few fish underneath. I smiled at the sight.

Mum had just taught me how to control myself from changing between a werewolf and a human. I used to stick to whichever happened before today, but now I know. And I must say. I prefer my human form a lot more.

The crunch of leaves brought me out of my thoughts and I snapped my head around with fear, afraid of who was there. It could either be a vampire, or someone from my wolf pack. And being caught by either one isn't something I'm aiming for.

A young girl, looking about my age, was stood there. She looked as regular as one could be, and I immediately labelled her as a human. Why she was out here? I had no idea. But I couldn't let her know that I was a werewolf, so I had to pretend to be a human, too.

"W-who are you?" she stuttered, her eyes widening with surprise. This made me realise that she had green eyes. Not green like the forest around us, but a calmer, more ocean-like green. They were beautiful.

"Um, Y/N," I said nervously. "Who are you?"

Probably realising I was no threat (or so she thought, anyway), she visibly relaxed in her stance, but her guard wasn't down just yet. "I'm Lauren."

Lauren. I tilted my head to the side and studied Lauren. She was wearing a pair of muddy Converse sneakers and some faded denim jeans with rips in some places. A loose tee shirt hung off her frame and her jet-black hair was slightly dishevelled with a few leaves poking out. I smiled. My type of friend.

"Nice to meet you, Lauren," I nodded, still feeling nervous to how to appear a regular human like herself. And what I say next is the result of my ten year old self overthinking. "I am just sitting here, like a normal person, watching the fishes. I've just come out of school and wanted to do a normal type of thing, like, you know, normal people."

Once I realised how stupid I sounded, I face-palmed. Cute, raspy giggles were heard and I removed my hand, only to see Lauren laughing at my dismay. She looked really pretty when she laughed. All of her teeth would show and the crinkles by her eyes would become prominent, conveying her humour. I promised myself to make her laugh more often.
