A/N: I'm having Y/N take Mina's spot on Bakugou's team, and Mina taking Aoyama's place on Shinso's team. I reviewed the one on one fights, it's insane that none of the female students got very far in the final battles :( Also I'm going to kind of just sum up / skip the cavalry battle, I tried to write it and got half way through before realizing how repetitive it sounded lol it was a tad bit boring

The cavalry battle was as chaotic as Y/N assumed it would be, with Bakugou flying from the team to capture headbands and Sero catching him before he could hit the ground.
There was a slight war that Bakugou and Monoma picked with each other, which had the team focusing most of their attention on teaching him a lesson.

But, their team ended up in second place, right behind Todoroki's team, followed by Shinso and then Midoriya's team.
Y/N tilted her head with dotted eyes as Bakugou sat on the ground and yelled at nothing, while Kirishima and Sero celebrated making it in the qualifiers.

"And that's the end of the cavalry battles! Our top four teams will make it to the finals! Which will be, the one on one battles! We will now be taking an intermission, students are free to take part in scavenger hunts and other fun activities! Those of you who do not wish to take part, we will be serving lunch in the cafeteria and the final battles will commence in an hour!" Midnight announced as the crowd cheered loudly.

Y/N sighed softly at the idea of a break, walking towards the tunnel so she could go enjoy some quiet time.
It was the first time having a lunch provided by the school, lunch rush making the girl something at random because Y/N didn't know what to pick.
Y/N carried her tray outside of the loud cafeteria and sat herself outside on the grass. She could still hear the distant cheering coming from the auditorium as they watched the activities the school set up for their enjoyment.

She sat peacefully, closing her eyes for a moment to feel the fresh breeze hitting her face while a few butterflies fluttered around her.
She looked beautiful.
That was the first thought that popped into Todoroki's head when he found the girl.

He had spoken to Midoriya on why the sports festival was of importance to him, and he wanted to do the same with Y/N. But seeing her like that made him not want to disturb her peace, but he had to get his point across. He also kind of felt bad about targeting her so much during the obstacle course, he could see a bruise forming from where he stood. He didn't know if it was his or Bakugou's doing, but that didn't matter since he took part as well.

He mustered up the courage and approached the girl.
"L/N."

Y/N slowly opened her eyes and looked to the sound of her last name, smiling softly when she recognized the boy. She didn't say a word, only nodding once in greeting, and he took the initiative to sit beside her with his own lunch tray.
Why was it so much more difficult to talk to her compared to Midoriya about this?

"I wanted to talk to you about something, about what this festival means to me."
Y/N looked to the side at him, before looking down at her tray of food silently, there was still a small smile on her face, which the half and half boy saw it as his cue to continue.

"I didn't have a very good upbringing. I'm the product of a quirk marriage, a tradition that's not as normal nowadays, but my parents were an exception. My mother was born with an ice quirk, my father has fire. My father kept having children in hopes of having a child with both quirks, and that's how I came to be. But my father was ruthless to my mother, beating on her, berating her. She tried so hard to protect me, but as I grew older, she saw more of my father when she looked at me. My left side more specifically. And one day, she poured boiling water on my face" Todoroki said as he lifted his hand to brush up against his scar.
"That's why, I have to win this sports festival, do it without using my old man's quirk. And show him, tell him, that I deny him completely."

Y/N had a neutral expression, looking down at the grass they sat on as he explained his origin. Why he was the way he was, and his goal in the hero course. He was admirable for being able to withstand all of it, and Y/N admired him for that.

"What about you?"

Y/N snapped her gaze to look at him with a slight confused expression.
"I know you said you can't make decisions, and that's why you use your coin all the time. But I can't figure out why you can't make decisions by yourself. No one is just, like that without some type of reason. At least, like that in the extent you are. What happened?"

Y/N continued to look at the boy, before looking up at the tall tree they were sat under. She could easily see the butterflies that found a home in its branches. No one ever asked her about herself to that extent. Sure people asked why she used a coin, but they never dived deeper into her reasoning. Shoto Todoroki, continued to surprise her.

"For as long as I can remember, I have been in foster care. I can remember snippets of my mother and father, they always smiled and were kind people, but they passed away when I was about three years old. My relatives didn't want to take me in, so I was placed into the system and then into a foster family.
That place had been my life for many years, they would beat us, starve us, force us to work. We would normally be locked in a small room for days on end until our foster parents let us out to clean. The other children slowly withered away due to their injuries and starvation, and very soon I had been the last one. It wasn't until then, when I saw the other children take their last breaths, that I could no longer feel anything. Not happiness, sadness, or anger. I'm just an empty shell, with no real purpose.
The neighbors called the authorities for a wellness check from the lack of sound coming from the house, and they found me locked in the room with the bodies of the others. Our foster parents had taken a large dosage of a drug, and never woke up. They had been dead for a little more than a week before the authorities came. So, ever since then I have been living at an estate belonging to two sisters, who treat me as one of them. I've never been allowed to make decisions by myself, and I found difficult to do so when I was rescued. So Kanae gave me this coin to help in the meantime" Y/N said, looking down at the coin in the palm of her hand.

Todoroki stared at the girl with widened eyes, mouth slightly agape as he listened to her. He would've never guessed that she went through that by looking at her. She wasn't overly excited, but the smile she always had at least made it look like she was content with life. But she was suffering everyday while life went on for the others. It was like she was treadmill while everyone else was on a track, she wasn't going anywhere while the others kept going further ahead of her.

Todoroki slowly moved his hand to grab the coin that was in her hand, looking at the detail that was put into it as Y/N looked his way. He turned his attention back to her, his eyes locked onto hers.
She had it harder than he did.
"I'll help you make decisions for yourself."

Y/N blinked owlishly at him, before smiling a little.
"You can call me Y/N."

"Okay Y/N, as long as you call me Shoto" he said, looking away from her so he could hide the heat that built on his face. What on earth was wrong with him?

"Students qualifying for the one on one battles, it is now time to make your way back to the arena!" The intercom said.
Shoto sighed, standing up from the grass and reached his hand towards the girl to help her stand.
She hesitantly took it, a light blush on her face as she got back on her feet.

Now it was time for the hard part, the battles.
