Spencer's POV-
"Shit," Johnny mutters, noticing the blue mustang that has come up behind us.
"Johnny.. is that.." I ask, unable to finish my sentence.
"Socs," Johnny says.
"What do they want?" I ask.
"I don't really want to stay to find out," he says, grabbing my hand and pulling me behind him. There's no other way out of here, it's a dead end. We have to pass the car. Trailing behind Johnny, we evade the car full of socs as much as possible, but they're looking for trouble. I notice this as soon as the four of them step out of the car, you can see it in their eyes.
"Aww, look at these greasy 'ol greasers!" says the first boy.
"Ha, get it? I get it.. greasy because you're greasers! Ha!" another boy says, snorting. His friends shoot him a look to stop, and his face turns into a frown. "Sorry.." he mumbles.
"Cute couple, really you are, it's too bad," says the first boy again.
"Knock it off Pauley," Johnny says, a barely noticeable quiver in his voice.
"What didchya say, Johnnycake?" Pauley says.
Johnny gulps, "I said knock it off. Just leave us alone, we ain't lookin for no trouble."
"Clearly you are, or else you wouldn't be talkin' back to Pauley," a third boy says. Johnny looks at the boy who says this, and complete terror comes over him.
"Bob..." Johnny says, barely audible.
"What was that, hood?" Bob says. I look at Johnny, then back at the three boys, dressed plainly in button down shirts and sweater vests. "This your girlfriend?" Bob asks, coming towards me.
"Don't touch her," Johnny says, angrily.
"What's your name, babe?" Bob asks me. The smell of liquor is extremely noticeable. He's drunk.
"Spencer," I say, indifferently.
Bob starts cracking up, "Spencer," he repeats, "you're that broad that Ed jumped," he says, still laughing.
"Yeah, I am," I say, "The one who just got into town and was labeled before he even knew me. The one who was beat
up for literally no reason at'all." Bob squints at me, trying to come up with something to say. "You a friend of Ed's?" I ask."That I am," Bob says.
"Go on and tell him he's an asshole," I say, pushing my luck.
"Little girl, you better watch your tongue," the other boy says.
"Will's right, wouldn't wanna get into any more trouble," Bob says.
"Try me," I say. I can't hold my tongue. Even with the pleading look I'm getting from Johnny, I can't do it. I'm too mad, I'm over it. "Sorry not sorry, guess you just have to deal with the sass," I say.
"We don't gotta deal with anything," Pauley says.
"Spence.." Johnny whispers, warning me.
"No, you go ahead. Y'all are drunk bastards. You know, why don't you actually just go home. You ain't wanted here," I say.
"That's it," Bob says, grabbing me around the waist. Johnny jumps on top of Bob, who's on top of me, punching me, half strangling me. He loosens his grip when Johnny jumps on, but not too long after that, Pauley and Will step in, grabbing Johnny and doing who knows that to him. I feel a sharp pain in my side, but I keep fighting.
I struggle to free myself from his grip, but within the month or so I've been here, I've learned a thing or two. I manage to get my hand free and I shove at his face, attempting to push him off of me. When that doesn't work, I take my fingers and press down on a pressure point, between his neck and shoulder.
"Ah!" Bob shouts and loosens, enough for me to push him off of me. I kick him a few times for good measure, and then he's on the ground, trying to recover. I look over to Johnny, getting beaten up by Pauley and held down by Will. I jump onto Pauley's back and start beating him the best I can. Yanking his head back, pulling his hair out of his head, and finally getting on top of him and hitting him as hard as I can. I look back for a moment to find Will and Johnny in a fight, Johnny fighting back but you can tell it won't be enough, he's had two of them just wailing on him. He's bleeding bad, and I can't stand it. I turn my attention back to Pauley, just in time too, since he's getting up and about to grab me. I kick him, hard, straight in that place where the sun don't shine. He wails, falling onto the ground, holding his crotch. In the midst of it all I giggle a bit, before I go over to help Johnny. I kick Will there too, from behind. He groans and falls to the ground, letting Johnny get the upper hand. We make sure they're all down for the count, until we finally run past the car, down the road, and back home.
"Holy shit," I say.
"Holy shit is right, Spence! You got an attitude!" Johnny says, out of breath.
"Oh, yeah," I say, "Call it a fatal flaw, I guess," I say with a shrug. "Are you okay?" I ask Johnny.
"Yeah, but the more important question is, are you?!" Johnny asks, pointing to my side.
I ignore his question, "Why were you so afraid of Bob?" I ask.
"He jumped me a while back. It's how I got this scar," he says. I ponder this for a moment. How did he give him a scar that bad?
"Okay," is all I can think to say.
"Spence, seriously, are you okay?" he asks again.
"Uh, yeah I think. I mean I still feel kinda dazed, in shock I guess," I say. I feel strange. I know I must've had the adrenaline kick in, it must be wearing off. I begin to feel lightheaded, sick even. I don't want to worry Johnny, though.
"No wonder.. Oh god Spence," Johnny says, pointing to my side again. I look down. My shirt is soaked with blood. I pull up my shirt to see a wide gash, deep by the looks of it. My eyes go wild. Blood is streaming down from the cut, the stab wound.
"Get me home," I say, before passing out.
