Arie's POV:
It's been 3 days since I saw my iPhone. Not that I have anyone to text anyway, but I miss jammin' out to Taylor Swift and her never ending songs of boyfriend failures. Cherry doesn't even know who Taylor Swift is, but then again, it's 1965, not 1989. It feels like I'm in an alternate universe, because I can buy iTunes songs, but iTunes doesn't even exist yet! I like to check my phone just in case somehow, someone back home has managed to text me. But I haven't seen my iPhone in 3 days, because Marcia went out on a "romantic vacation" with Randy, and Cherry needs someone to help her with Prom set up, so of course that would be me. I wasn't even planning to go to the Prom at home, me and... me and... I can't remember her name, but me and a friend were just going to stay home, gorging on snacks and watching Netflix. But despite the fact that I just appeared here out of no where, I have to go to the prom. I guess it's a big deal in Tulsa, 1965. There's only one good thing about the prom being so special.
Two days earlier
"Okay, it's all set!" Cherry exclaimed.
"Oh god what did you do?" I moan.
"Talked to Bob, who talked to Ed," Cherry says proudly.
"What did you say?!" I scream.
"Just that I think that 'Arie and Ed would be adorable together, but of course it would be awful for Arie to ask Ed to the prom!' and he agreed with me, as always, and went to go find Ed. Believe me, they tell each other everything, especially with Randy gone," Cherry says.
"I swear Cherry, if he starts being awkward around me or anything I will.. make your hair redder with the color of your blood!" I yell, satisfied.
Cherry just looks at me, "work on that, would you?"
"I thought it was pretty good.." I mumble.
•One day earlier (from the present)•
Or
•One day after Cherry's meddling•(A/N: sorry I didn't know how to put it, I basically wanted to make you see that 2 days ago cherry talked to Bob about creating 'Edie' and then a day later this happened, and then a day after that she is telling the reader about it)
"No it's fine, I mean it's not like we can walk home from here, wherever here is," I say.
"I'm so sorry Arie! I thought someone was chasing us!" Cherry says.
"They weren't," I say, a little irritated.
"Well, this is probably better than that stupid movie we was gonna see any way!" Cherry says.
"Were," I correct her.
"Uh, okay?" she says, "Well at least Bob let us borrow his car!"
"His car is what got us here! You thought some greasers were following you.. They weren't! If we were on foot we wouldn't be nearly this far from home! And we wouldn't be lost!" I say, finally.
Cherry checks the clock, "it's 8:00pm," she says, "I'll just try to go home, see if I can get there." So we drive for about 30 minutes until we finally get home. Even though it's still summer, the nights have cooled down, and it's windy. My red dress waves in the wind as I walk to the front porch of our house. Cherry wanted me to dress nicely for the movies. I wouldn't have listened if I knew we were going to sit in a car for an hour. As I approach the front porch, I notice a strange glow illuminating the porch. Curiously, I walk up and find not one, not two, but probably 50 small, lit candles spelling out the word 'PROM?' along with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates.
"Oh god," I mutter, a mix of embarrassment and joy. "Was this-"
"Ed? Yes," Cherry says, smiling. I pick up the flowers and sniff them.
"Wow," is all I can think to say.
And just like that, I had a date to the prom.
