Johnny's POV-
I carry Spencer to the Curtis' house, struggling not to pass out myself. I can't believe what just happened, it all happened so fast..
"What the hell happened!" Darry yells, running up to us with the rest of the gang in tow.
"Soc's, Bob and them.." I trail off.
"How?" Pony asks, concerned.
"We was watchin' the sunset, everything was swell but when we turned around, we saw the blue mustang. And Spence, aw Spence.. she can't hold 'er tongue, she dunno how it works, they just pounced on 'er. I tried to help her, I did, but they came after me. An' she didn't need my help much, she did so good on her own.. wasn't 'til we was runnin' home, that I noticed the blood. Somebody hadda' knife, somethin' sharp.. I dunno.. but it cut 'er, and she passed right out before we could make it home," I say, breathing heavily.
"Okay Johnnycake, calm down, deep breaths," Ponyboy says.
"It was 'sposed to be perfect," I say, whining.
"It was perfect, I'm sure of it, it was just the end that ain't so good," Pony says.
"Yeah, I mean she'll definitely always remember this date! If she wakes up.." Two-Bit adds in. I stifle a whimper. Darry shoots him a dirty glance.
"What the hell?!" Dally comes storming in the house, immediately to Spencer's side.
"We already went over this," I say, still unable to breathe well.
"Jumped by Soc's. Cut her with sumthin' sharp. She passed out a 'lil bit ago," Darry says, summing things up.
"Oh god," he says, sitting down next to Spencer's limp body on the couch. "She ain't lookin' so good."
"No, she ain't," Ponyboy agrees.
"She gonna be okay though, right?" I ask. The room is silent. "Ain't she?" I ask again. More silence. "AIN'T SHE?" I shout.
"Yeah, yeah she'll be okay," Darry says. "I think.." he mumbles under his breath. Just then, Sodapop strolls in, smiling ear to ear.
"Heeeeello everyone how's it.. what the hell?!" he says.
"Here we go again.." I say.
"She was jumped, her and Johnny. Stabbed with somethin' sharp. She'll be okay.. we hope," Darry repeats.
"We hope!?" Soda shouts, angrily, "Who was it? Who jumped you!?"
"Bob.. Pauley and Will.." I say, shivering.
"Damn socs.." Soda says.
"Yeah.." I say.
"Well, what're we gonna do?! Just sit here? Take it?! Nuh-uh, I'm not..." Soda says, furious.
"I'm with Soda on this one, we can't just sit here and wait 'til they pick their next victim!" Darry rages.
"No!" I shout, "Don't do somethin' y'all are gonna regret.. Spencer wouldn't want ya to." The room falls silent once again.
"We gotta do somethin..." Dally says quietly. Everyone glances in his direction.
"You really care about her, huh?" Darry says.
"Aw shoot guys, yeah, yeah I do. We ain't never had a girl greaser, and, her bein' at my place an' all, well, she's like a little sister.. I just.. I don't like.. I don't wanna see her hurtin', ya know? She's just a kid," he says, fumbling over his words.
"So it's true?" Two-Bit asks.
"What?" Dally asks, puzzled.
"You gotta secret soft side!" Two-Bit chuckles, and the whole gang joins in.
"Yeah yeah, but that's why it's called a secret soft side. You tell anybody outside this group, I'll break your soft side," Dally says, raising an eyebrow. The boys whoop and holler at this. Everyone seems to settle down and we all end up just starin' at Spencer.
"She still looks hot, even when she's all beat up and passed out," Steve says. I shoot him a dirty glance, and Dally punches him in the arm.
"I heard that," Spencer's weak voice says, quietly.
