Michaella's POV
I woke up feeling as though I hadn't slept at all. The emotional turmoil of the night had drained me, and the remnants of my dream about Gabrielle still haunted me. My eyes felt heavy, and my heart ached with the lingering sadness. But there was no time to dwell on it. Today was a day full of work, and I needed to pull myself together.
I slowly sat up, taking a deep breath, and glanced at the time. It was still early, but I had a full schedule ahead. My to-do list lay on the nightstand, a reminder of all the tasks that awaited me. I stretched, trying to shake off the fatigue, and forced myself to get out of bed.
After a quick shower, I stood in front of my closet, contemplating what to wear. I needed something that would make me feel confident and ready to take on the day. I chose a tailored corset top, and high-waisted trousers, and a pearl necklace, and I put my hair in a slick bun. As I dressed, I couldn't help but remember Gabrielle's compliments on my style. Shaking off the thought, I focused on the present.
In the kitchen, I prepared a strong cup of coffee and a light breakfast. As I ate, I reviewed my schedule for the day: meetings with my publisher, a podcast recording session, and a late lunch with my Valerie – my sister. I missed her a lot. It was going to be a long day, but I was determined to stay productive and focused.
With my laptop and planner in hand, I settled at my desk and began tackling my emails. The inbox was overflowing, but I methodically worked through each message, responding to inquiries and organizing my thoughts for the meetings. The routine helped ground me, offering a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos of my emotions.
Time flew by, and before I knew it, it was time for my first meeting with my publisher. I grabbed my things and headed out the door, trying to clear my mind and focus on the tasks ahead. The city bustled around me as I made my way to the office, the familiar sights and sounds a comforting backdrop to my thoughts.
As I walked in, I saw my editor, Rachel, already seated with her laptop open. And a cappuccino on the table waiting for me.
"Hi, Rachel," I greeted her, sliding into the seat across from her.
"Hi, Michaella! Ready to dive into your latest draft?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
We spent the next hour going over my manuscript, discussing plot twists and character development. Rachel's insights were invaluable, and by the end of our meeting, I felt more confident about the direction of my book.
After wrapping up with Rachel, Next on the agenda was the podcast recording session. As I arrived at the studio, I felt a knot of anxiety tighten in my stomach. I was a little anxious about seeing Alex because I wasn't sure how to navigate the tension. But I reminded myself that this was work, and I needed to maintain a professional demeanour.
"Hello, our star," Alex greeted me with a smile as I walked in.
"Hi, Alex," I replied, returning a faint smile. "Let's get started, shall we?"
We settled into the recording booth, and I put on my headphones. Taking a deep breath, I began the episode with my usual enthusiasm, hoping to mask the exhaustion I felt. The topic for today's podcast was "Embracing Vulnerability." It was something I felt deeply about, especially after last night's emotional turmoil. I took a deep breath and began.
"Hello, everyone, and welcome back to 'RaiseUp.' Today, we're diving into a topic that's both challenging and empowering: embracing vulnerability. It's something we all experience, yet often shy away from. Vulnerability is not a sign of weakness; it's a testament to our courage and strength. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we open up to new possibilities, deeper connections, and profound personal growth."
The session went smoothly, and I felt a sense of accomplishment as we wrapped up. Alex gave me a thumbs up from the control room, and I smiled back, grateful for the positive energy.
After wrapping up at the studio, I had some time before meeting Valerie. I decided to walk around the city, enjoying the fresh air and taking in the sights. The walk helped clear my mind and reset my energy.
Valerie and I had agreed to meet at a charming little bistro for a late lunch. She was already there when I arrived, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
"Hey, sis!" Valerie greeted me with a warm hug. "It's been too long."
"Hey, Val! I've missed you," I replied, hugging her back.
Valerie looked stunning, as always. Her natural sense of style was evident in the delicate jewellery she wore—pieces she had designed herself. We settled into our seats and ordered our meals.
"So, how's the jewellery business going?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"It's been great, actually," Valerie said, her face lighting up. "I just finished a custom piece for a client, and they loved it. What about you? How's the writing?"
I filled Valerie in on my latest projects, and we chatted about our lives, sharing stories and laughter. It was refreshing to spend time with her, and I felt my spirit's lift.
After lunch, I had a few more tasks to tackle. I returned home and spent the afternoon catching up on emails and preparing for an upcoming literary event. The day was long, but it was productive, and by the evening, I felt a sense of accomplishment.
As I sat down with a glass of wine, I reflected on the day's events. Despite the exhaustion, I was grateful for the support of my family, the progress in my work, and the small moments of joy that had punctuated the day. It was a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there were always reasons to be thankful.
Just as I was about to take my first sip, the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone, so I walked to the door with curiosity. I opened it to find Mia and Marian standing there, grinning from ear to ear.
"Surprise!" they both shouted, holding up bottles of wine.
"Oh my God, what are you two doing here?" I exclaimed, unable to hide my excitement.
"We thought you could use some company," Mia said, stepping inside. "And maybe some girl talk."
Marian nodded. "We brought reinforcements," she added, waving the bottles of wine.
I laughed and welcomed them in, grateful for their spontaneity. We settled into the living room, and soon the conversation flowed as easily as the wine. We talked about everything—work, relationships, dreams, and fears. The warmth of their presence and the comfort of our friendship made the evening feel magical.
As the night went on, the conversation grew deeper and more heartfelt. We shared our hopes and worries, supporting each other with understanding and love. It was one of those rare, precious moments where everything felt just right.
Eventually, we decided to call it a night. Mia and Marian, slightly tipsy and very happy, crashed on my couch and guest bed. I felt a profound sense of gratitude as I watched them drift off to sleep, knowing I wasn't alone in this journey.
The house was quiet again, and I sat down with my laptop, feeling inspired by the day's events. The words flowed effortlessly as I wrote a beautiful, romantic scene for my book, full of love, passion, and desire. The emotions from my dream, my day, and the love of my friends all mingled together, creating something truly special.
Finally, as the clock ticked past midnight, I closed my laptop and prepared for bed. I glanced at my phone, seeing a message notification. Gabrielle had liked one of my Instagram stories. My heart skipped a beat, but I quickly dismissed the thought. I was on my path, and though it was hard, I was finding my way.
With a contented sigh, I climbed into bed, feeling the weight of the day lift from my shoulders. Tomorrow would be another day, full of its own challenges and triumphs. But tonight, I was surrounded by love and friendship, and that was more than enough.
