Chapter 1: First Day Nerves

Lucy: Morning baby.
Tim: Morning beautiful.
Lucy: I am, aren't I?
Tim: Hey, that's my thing, being smug.
Lucy giggles while Tim rolls his eyes and smiles.
Tim: Come on, let's get up before we... um... run into some troubles of getting out of bed.
Lucy: And what's that? (playing dumb of course)
Tim: You know...
Lucy: I don't, but you can explain it to me while I have a shower. You can join; it might help me wake up a bit more.
Tim: Oh, always thinking strategically...
Fast-forward an hour to when they are about to leave.
Tim: What's wrong, Luce?
Lucy: Nothing.
Tim: Mhmh...
Lucy: Fine. I am scared. Today is my first day.
Tim: Well, I was going to be your training officer, but then, well, I had to tell Grey that we're dating, so me being your TO was no longer an option.
Lucy: I know, but...
Tim: But it will be okay. You have Doug Stanton. I've heard good things about him, but if you have any problems, and I mean any—
Lucy: I will let you know. I know.
Tim: Good. Now let's go before you're late.
Tim and Lucy arrive at the Mid-Wilshire Police Station.
Tim: Lucy, I want you to meet Angela Lopez, detective, and Nyla Harper, training officer.
Angela: Hi, Lucy.
Nyla: Hey there, Lucy.
Angela: You need anything, you let us know. Like girl stuff or to rant about how annoying Tim is. I worked with him for 10 years. If you have a problem, I most likely have a solution.
Lucy: Haha. I just might have to take you up on that offer.
Tim: I am still here.
In the Roll Call Room.
Grey: Alright, today we have some fresh meat out in the field. These rookies have earned the right to be here. Rookies, stand up and state your name and badge number.
Lucy: I am Lucy Chen, badge number 28537.
John: I am John Nolan, badge number 25253.
Jackson: I am Jackson West, badge number 33356.
Grey: Okay, so we have our hotshot, our legacy, and our rookie who was born before the disco. Officer Stanton, you get our hotshot. Sergeant Bradford, you get our legacy. And Officer Harper, you get our ancient rookie. Dismissed.
Tim: Alright, boot, go round up our gear.
Jackson: Yes, sir.
Stanton: Morning. I don't do any of that TO boot nonsense. Instead, I am more of a mentor. See me as a teacher, teaching you how to master things.
Stanton starts to reach for her shoulder towards her chest.
Lucy: (sees him reaching for her boob, so she steps back) Okay, sir. I will go round up the gear.

Chapter 2: The First Patrol
Lucy grabs the gear quickly and heads outside, feeling a bit uneasy. Stanton waits by the patrol car, leaning casually against the hood.
Stanton: Ready for your first day out, hotshot?
Lucy: Yes, sir.
As they get into the car, Lucy's mind races. Tim had reassured her, but there was something about Stanton that made her skin crawl.
Stanton: So, Chen, tell me why you became a cop.
Lucy: I wanted to help people, make a difference in my community.
Stanton: That's cute. But out here, it's about survival and doing what it takes to get the job done. Don't forget that.
They drive through the streets of LA, the morning sun casting long shadows. Stanton points out different landmarks and neighborhoods, giving her a rundown of their beat.
Stanton: This area, it's quiet now, but don't let your guard down. Always be ready.
They receive their first call of the day—a domestic disturbance. Lucy feels a rush of adrenaline as they arrive at the scene.
Stanton: Follow my lead. Stay behind me.
Lucy nods, heart pounding. They approach the house, and Stanton knocks on the door. A middle-aged woman answers, her face streaked with tears.
Woman: He's in there, breaking things.
Stanton: Stay here, ma'am. We'll handle it.
Inside, they find a man in a rage, throwing furniture. Stanton moves in, his demeanor calm and authoritative. Lucy follows, her hand on her weapon, ready for anything.
Stanton: Sir, put down the chair and step away.
The man hesitates, then drops the chair. Stanton cuffs him quickly and efficiently, then turns to Lucy.
Stanton: Good job staying focused. Remember, keep your cool.
Back in the car, Lucy feels a mix of relief and pride. Her first call had gone smoothly, and she had held her own.
Lucy: That was intense.
Stanton: Get used to it. This job is full of surprises.
As the day goes on, they respond to more calls—traffic stops, noise complaints, and a shoplifting incident. Each time, Lucy gains more confidence, but Stanton's attitude continues to unsettle her.
