The LAPD station was its usual brand of chaotic—officers typing reports, suspects being processed, phones ringing non-stop. Lucy Chen sat at her desk, finishing paperwork while Tim Bradford flipped through a case file beside her. Just another day until

Ashley

Walked in.

Lucy didn't even need to look up to know something was off. The click of designer heels, the scent of expensive perfume, and the sudden tension in Tim's shoulders told her everything she needed to know.

Tim sighed, already looking irritated. "Ashley, what are you doing here?"

Ashley strutted into the bullpen like she belonged there, her blonde hair perfectly curled, her red-painted lips smirking like she had a secret. She was dressed for war a skintight dress that left little to the imagination and heels high enough to make a statement.

"Oh, Tim," Ashley purred, ignoring his question completely. "You make it sound like I'm not welcome."

Lucy sat up a little straighter. She knew this wasn't going to be good.

"Because you're not," Tim deadpanned.

Ashley just laughed, reaching out and smoothing a hand over Tim's chest like she owned him. "Oh, baby, don't be like that."

Lucy's jaw clenched.

Tim stepped back, shaking her off. "Don't call me that. What do you want, Ashley?"

Ashley pouted dramatically, her fingers playing with the lapel of Tim's uniform. "I just figured we should talk. You know, about us."

Lucy blinked. Us? Since when was there an us?

Tim let out a sharp breath, clearly running out of patience. "There is no us. We ended things you ended things."

Ashley rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. That was, like, forever ago. People change. And I've been thinking..." She traced a finger down his arm. "Maybe we should give this another shot."

Lucy's grip tightened on her pen. Oh, hell no.

Tim stepped back again. "Not happening."

Ashley huffed but still wasn't getting the message. Instead, she turned to Lucy, eyes filled with fake sweetness. "Lucy! Wow. I keep seeing you in pictures with Tim. You two must be so close."

Lucy forced a polite smile. "We are."

Ashley's smile stretched wider, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Yeah, I mean, it makes sense. You were always sooo eager to be his partner. Guess you finally found your way into his personal life, huh?"

Tim's jaw clenched. "Ashley—"

But Ashley wasn't done. She let out a fake laugh, twirling a strand of her hair. "I mean, don't get me wrong. You're cute. Little and cute. But Tim likes his women with a little more... I don't know... experience?"

Lucy's entire body went cold. Oh, she wants a fight.

Tim's hand curled into a fist at his side. "Ashley, stop."

But Ashley wasn't stopping. Instead, she suddenly lunged at him, wrapping her arms around his neck in an actual hug, pressing her body against his like they were still together.

Tim immediately grabbed her wrists, pulling her off of him. "What the hell are you doing?"

Ashley just laughed like this was some kind of game. "Oh, come on, babe. You missed me."

Lucy stood. "Okay, that's enough."

Ashley turned, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? Did I hit a nerve, Chen?"

Lucy stepped closer, her voice deadly calm. "Tim said no. Back off."

Ashley scoffed, flipping her hair. "Oh, sweetie. I don't take orders from you."

Tim actually took Ashley by the shoulders and physically moved her back. "Leave. Now."

Ashley's eyes flashed with something dangerous. "Oh, this is rich. You think this little thing is going to last, Tim? You think she's going to put up with you the way I did?"

Lucy crossed her arms. "He doesn't need putting up with."

Ashley let out a sharp, bitter laugh. "God, you are so naive. This won't last. He always gets bored. And when he does? I'll be waiting."

Tim took a step forward, his voice low and firm. "Ashley, I don't want you. I never did. We were a mistake. And Lucy? She's nothing like you."

Lucy felt something warm in her chest at that, but she was too pissed to focus on it.

Ashley's face twisted, but before she could open her mouth again—

"Ma'am, I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

Sergeant Grey's voice cut through the tension like a knife. He was standing in the doorway, arms crossed, unimpressed.

Ashley scoffed, flipping her hair one last time. "Fine. But don't come crawling back, Tim."

And with that, she turned on her heel and stormed out of the station, leaving a tense silence in her wake.

Lucy let out a breath, rolling her shoulders. "Well. That was... something."

Tim groaned. "I need a drink."

Lucy smirked. "You need a shower. She was all over you."

Tim scowled. "Ugh, don't remind me." He turned to her, softer now. "You okay?"

Lucy arched an eyebrow. "Me? You were the one being groped against your will."

Tim rolled his eyes. "Yeah, but she was trying to get under your skin."

Lucy tilted her head, pretending to think. "Hmm. Maybe a little."

Tim gave her a look.

Lucy grinned. "Fine. A lot. But mostly because she wouldn't take no for an answer. And the Timmy thing? I might need therapy."

Tim groaned. "I hate that nickname."

Lucy nudged him playfully. "Then I won't call you that."

Tim smirked. "Good. Because you're the only person I actually like calling me anything."

Lucy felt her cheeks warm, but before she could say anything, Grey cleared his throat.

"Are we done with the workplace soap opera?"

Lucy grinned. "For now."

Tim sighed. "Hopefully forever."
